Hey Everyone, I could appreciate some help on this. I have severely damaged my Soul Calibur 3 DVD to the point of minute long load times inbetween battles... I had the Origa mod chip put into my PS2 a long time ago with the understanding that I would be able to play backups without too much effort, but after doing some research today I have found very little on how it works(I guess because the chip is so old).
I'm looking to spend as little money as possible, so while a Game Shark or the Neo mod chip aren't out of the question, I'd like to not purchase them if I can help it.
Is there anyway I can boot a DVD-R backup just with the Origa and maybe some disc swapping?
there are quite a few chips out there that cost less then 30 bucks and are no swap. i have always modded mine and other peoples so i have no dealings with the 'Swap Magic' so i cant tell you if that will work for you or not but i've done allot of old version (1,2,3,4......) PS2's and they all play backups of all types. allot of the older PS2's do have a hard time reading +R media and some refuse to read it at all, this could be your problem maybe????
Well, I use Memorex 16X DVD-Rs... After reading the dvd media guide I was very worried, since my DVD-R was burned at 4X, but after doing a check with Nero DVD Speed, there was only %.50 damaged sectors of the DVD. My initial problem that I know of is that the DVD I tried to back up(Castlevania Curse Of Darkess) had a dummy file that needed to be removed, so I need to reburn it again with a new dummy file anyway... But aside from that, I've seen no documentation on the Origa mod chip on any mod websites, and all I know it does do is play imports without swapping...
I thought there was a method to play backups however...
it's been a while but if memory serves me the Origa was an Italian made chip that only helped with the region code on the chip and allowed original games from any location (imports) to be played it had limited ability to boot copied games but did some. Sony went after them and the makers of the NEO4 way back around the last of 2001 and i haven't seen or heard much out of them since.
