Basically the problem:
Got some Imation DVD+R x8 discs. Trying to burn some AVI's as data discs so that I can view them on a computer at a later date, not a DVD player. The burn process says it is successful, but the disc cannot be read afterwards.

I have read a few posts with similar problems on the forum, and in those cases the problem seemed to be bad media. I just wanted to check this is the case for me as well before I go out buying stuff I don't need.

I also considered that the problem could be my burner being old, or that Nero Burning ROM is corrupting the discs.

Here is my Nero log file:

Drak00n,
Welcome to the forum. Can the burner burn anything you can read as it states the burn was successful

1.Nero Version: 6.6.0.8
You need to update Nero 6 as you are a few versions behind

2.=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : HDS728080PLAT20 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : SAMSUNG DVD R/RW SH-W08A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : Generic STEALTH DVD st3wolf Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a axsaki Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.2a axsaki Port 3 ID 1 DMA: Off

All of the above devices should be in DMA Mode. You need to make sure in device manager that DMA is enabled

3.Update the burner's firmware:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=28

4.MBIPG101]
Manufacturer Name : [Moser Baer India Ltd.]

That blank media is pretty low quality . Try using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Maxell. The real mauf of the Imations is Moser Baer

5. File 'Drivers\InCDfs.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 4, size=92928 bytes, created 07/09/2004 13:41:06 (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP)
File 'Drivers\InCDpass.SYS': Ver=4, 3, 0, 4, size=28672 bytes, created 07/09/2004 13:41:22 (InCD4 driver for win NT/2K/XP)

Uninstall INCD as that gives problems

The writer burns CD's fine, its just DVDs I couldn't get to work.

I tried to find the controls to switch the DMA on my virtual CD/DVD drives, but couldn't find the controls for it. These will not be involved in the burning process, so I just left them as they are.

However, updating the firmware and burning software seems to have done the trick. The DVD's burn just fine now and can be accessed afterwards.
Thanks very much for your help. :-)
