V7 plays DVDs, not CDs, do I need a new laser?

My V7 SCPH-39001 PS2 plays DVD discs flawlessly, but makes INSANE buzzing sounds when I pop in a blue CD format game. I've tried turning the white gear to adjust the laser height, I tried adjusting the voltage, tried stupid magnet/tape tricks, nothing works.

If the laser is broken, would it still be playing DVDs? Or should you only buy a new laser if all types of discs stop playing? Thanks.

nope dont need a new laser what you need is a new laser arm thats what is making all that noise when it is trying to read the disks
all that happend is the teeth have worn out from all that game play heres a link which leads to ebay if you wanna buy a new one and it comes with instructions on how to fit it which is very easy to fit in!!!

iv had this problem with many of my ps2's and fix it with this
only cost about £4 inc p&p

Well I'm definately glad I asked then, I was ready to spend $70 on a laser. I'll order a replacement and see if that does the trick. Thanks for the tip!
