Hey,
Got a Noob question.
I was wondering if anyone knew exactly why the Playstation does not play game back-ups. The technical reason please. I know it is protected by some type of copyright technology, but what is it exactly. A playstation can play backed-up movies, music etc... without any mods. Also those booting disks are playable as well, so why not do the same with games as these boot disks.

There is a security code pressed into games that:
1. only the ps2 can read
2. no burner can reproduce

Boot disc makers use a dvd press just like Sony to press their boot code over an original ps2 game. That way the security stuff is still there and the disc boots.
