I just bought a used harddrive and someone said that i need a disk to run it. Also, do I need a network adapter? How does it work if it is n't connected to something?
Any help would be appreciated.

you'll need an official Sony network adapter to connect the HDD to the PS2 and you'll need a HD Loader or HD Advance disk to 'boot' if you don't have a mod chip or get someone with a mod chip to do you a memory card exploit and you can use a PS1 disk (called a trigger disk) to boot the MC Exploit and access the HDD to boot games.

if you have a slim version PS2 you will need other hardware to make the HDD to PS2 connection, not a network adapter.
