I had a ver 1 ps2 and got it modded it soon failed and I had a guy in nj mod a brand new slim ps2 and it worked for a few weeks He put a matrix infinity chip in all my back up worked for a little while and then stoped working. What gives?

Yes originals work and no he did not install a laser fix. Do you
need a laser fix on a brand new model?

Yes, its a very good idea to have one. But, since originals work, id say something is wrong with the chip (loose wire maybe).
