RCA DVD Recorder VCR Combo 8300N Locked Up

My recorder is locked up in the record mode both DVD and VCR i guess. I have no explanatrion for this. Followed RCA book and called RCA. They stated unplug for 30 minutes, then press STANDBY BUTTON and STOP BUTTONS to reset. DOES NOT WORK. Called service center--they stated $160.00 to repair. I can buy refurbished for $150.00.

HELP anyone have a solution. I may have pushed the wrong button or too much in a hurry; one thing for sure electronics is not my game. The warinty just ran out and I really don't have the money to replace or even fix this. Please contact me at soccer101@att.net with help. Thanks, Ron.
