Ok..you asked for it..

Cisco 2924M 10/100 Ethernet switch DECserver 700 (terminal server)DEC Alpha DS10 server with 256MB of RAM and 3 90GB Seagate internal hard disks. It also has a CD-ROM and floppy. This system is a VMS FTP server Below that system is another identical Alpha, which has a 96GB Seagate autoloader added. Next is an APC AP9210 remote power controller. It handles the power sequencing for the devices above it in the cabinet. It's really cute - it has web, telnet, and SNMP interfaces as well as a serial port. Near the bottom of the picture is the (overly) colorful keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) switch from Rose. It provides on-screen display, control, and switching between the various systems in this cabinet (and 2 remote systems) on the attached keyboard/monitor/mouse. The system below the KVM switch is a Unix server. Dual PPro 200/512 system w/ 512MB of main memory. It has disks further down. It runs BSDI's BSD/OS 4.1. It's used for software development and testing (it's a full-source system). Next is my main Unix box (joolz). It has an identical processor/memory/OS config, but talks to a 1200GB RAID array for its disks. Below this are the disks - the array for joolz on the left, a DAT drive, hard disk, and CD.
Had everybody's hopes up there.. In reality it's a heap of old junk. Slow..heavy and hot!
I need to buy a new chair.. the plastic one is comfy, but it really draws after a while. heh heh heh.. function over comfort every time.

If you look closely you can see how good all this lot is at keeping the damp at bay. The flash makes the room look stark, it's really small and cosy with just the monitor and lamp on, some good music and a rum and coke...nice..

I make do with shiny hardware because I'm still waiting on some intelligent software to accompany it! Who cares about the hardware's age jan, it has uber geek factor!

You'll say that after a whole afternoon trying to id an unknown ISA ethernet card that refuses to connect, or detect properly with any flavour of linux at all.. Just in the process of shoving xp on a p133 in a fruitless attempt to find out just WTF these cards are... Geek value.. Nah..it's more like..

No new equipment for me as such, well apart from a 3rd tv just for the Dreamcast console and a.n.other PS1, but my digital camera seems to be playing up at the moment. I was going to just replace one of my previous pics as my spare PC corner is a lot neater and more functional with 3rd tv etc and in fact that corner is now used a lot so i wanted to update the piccy. Watch this space me old mucker.

My toy for this xmas was this....

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produc...&ad=AMR_H880HPB

Now I'm in the market for an LCD monitor...can't go any larger than a 19" and would prefer a widescreen. Anyone have anything bad to say about Hanns-G?

Nothing bad to say about Hanns-G. Although they appear a budget brand I haven't heard of any major issues.

That is what I'm looking for...a budget monitor. I can get the 19" widescreen Hanns-G for $170, but I've seen the VeiwSonics and Samsungs that low before. Also looking at a Sceptre.

Go to imageshack.us, upload your image, then copy the link at the bottom. (Direct link to image). Then as shown in the information above the reply box, put [ img ] before the URL and [ /img ] after it, but without the spaces:

i fixed a couple posts further up the page..

..still haven't got my camera working, an expensive doorstop by the look of it so far; anyways, i've bought some new bits and bobs, nothing major though.

pics from - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/425578/2682272

At the moment i'm using one of these cheap & cheerful USB2.0 enclosures for my 120MB MP3 hard drive -

..works a treat and i move it easily and transparently between my Linux laptop and Windows/Linux Burner PC, USB is excellent when you get a decent chipset :)

But for no reason whatsoever i've bought two of these (only wanted one but it was rude to not get another) with a 250GB drive to replace the 120GB enclosure for MP3's to future proof myself a bit (i sure do like my music) -

(lots of nice lights and buttons).

These are the Belkin burner enclosures i swear by (i've had 2 for the longest time, just bought another 2) -

i also have a new corner of the room all sorted but it'll have to keep 'til i get camera working but i'm pondering buying another PC or two anyways.

Finally able to send a picture of how I'm setup at university. The room's a mess, so apologies for that!
The hifi speakers are on the floor because at present there's nowhere else to put them. They were going to be used as speakers for the communal xbox 360 we have. The black box on the floor is the 120W subwoofer.
