I ordered swap magic 3.6 and a fliptop lid. I installed the lid without difficulty. When I booted up, I put in the swap magic disk. It was giving me a 'there is no data" message. I kept fiddling with it and it only spinned up once - when it did read the disk i got the following message -"insert bigger TOC disk".

Since then, I have not been able to get a disk to spin-up in the ps2.

Where am I going wrong?

Your Swap Magic is not working cause (1) the game you are trying to load is too big. Swap Magic doesn't like games that are over 4.29G in size. However, your problem can be solved by getting a game which is larger in size than the game you are trying to load put this into the PS2, eject, and then put the game you actually want to play in the PS2(2) The disc may not be spinning cause you may have put that little white cog on incorrectly.

What JoshLogan said. It's "4.35 GB," not 4.29. And the Swap Magic disc never gives the "insert bigger TOC disc" message no matter how big the game is (even if it is the max size of 4.37 GB).

Thanks for the replys.

I took the screws back out and booted up with Swap Magic - and swapped out with the imported game. It spins up perfectly now.

Couple of things...

-I seem to have the game in black and white. I vaguely remember reading something about this happening on this forum yesterday and am about to go searching for the solution. If someone reads this in the meantime and knows, feel free to post here - just in case I dont figure it out. I think it had something to do with my ps2 being PAL based???
<EDIT> Ok, been reading up...
The ps2 is PAL
Swap Magic is PAL
The imported disk is NTSC

I tried changing video mode to NTSC but this doesnt make the difference</EDIT>

-I have just realised that I left out a small rectangular metal plate (with hole in middle) when putting the ps2 (slimline) back together. Whats its function and where is it supposed to go?

Yeah for SW 3.6 it's 4.35G not 4.29G (which is the limit on an older version of SW), sorry.

Pretense, Swap Magic does give the 'insert bigger TOC/refresh TOC' message if a game is too big, I've had it come up before. Check out www.swapmagicfix.com re the message 'insert bigger TOC/refresh TOC'before you make such statements! And like I said this problem is over come by inserting an original game which is larger than the back up.
