I am having an extrememly annoying problem. I am having trouble ripping about half of the dvd's that i try to rip. everytime i have problems, it stops at 48% and always comes up with a cyclic redunancy error. i have recently started paying more attention and noticing that many of the original movies are in dual-layer format. I have AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, CloneDVD, and DVD Decryptor. i have tried using dvd decryptor and changing the mode to file and doing it that way but it also stops at 48%. could it be that my drive wont switch to the second layer of a dual layer disk? i have no trouble with the older movies. the most recent ive had trouble with is the dukes of hazzard movie. I have tried two different copies of it, one of which is brand new, but i still have the same problem. This is extremely frustrating. i have had no trouble burning and havent ended up with any coasters (i burn to Taiyo Yuden S.T. 8X DVD+R).

i have a pentium 4, 512MB ram, a 160 GB HDD, a 120GB HDD. my DVD+RW drive is a cheapy factory version, its a Lite-On It, model LDW-411S. i have updated the firmware on it and still no luck.

Are you using a lappy, I have an dell xps and have gone through 2 burners, the heat kills the laser (ha ha ha Laser). I lived in asia for several years and owned a karaoke bar and went through several dvd players the heat killed them to, but with players when the light fades a litlle it has a hard time reading the discs, ther ei was able to take apart the player and turn up the density of the light and it would work for a few more months. I have not tried it on my dell to lasy and buying a new one is easy, plus over there in the philippines money was to hard to come buy so fixing anthing tell it had no life was well worth it. Sorry for the ramblings. Again is it a lappy and if not how old is the burner?

Well if you decide to get a new dvd burner i like nec, i just bought an external one for 50 bucks. I'm sure you can get one internal for under 40 bucks if not cheaper. i usually get about 200 burns with my dvd before i start getting all kinds of errors. Just keep in mind I'm one person with one oppinion, all i know for sure is when the laser is used alot the density of the light gets a little dim and therfore cant read the discs a like a new player or burner.
