Hi,
I am trying to store my DVD collection on my hard drive and am having difficulty figuring out the best approach to take. Here is my situation: I have a media center PC hooked up to a large TV. I have 1 terabyte of storage and I do not want to compress the movies at all. I want to be left with one file that I can click on that will start the movie. I don't mind paying for software if it will make my job significantly easier. I have tried using DVD decrypter, but I am left with a folder of files, not a single file. Is there any way to do this? Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Aokay

Have youm thought about using DivX? I know you mentioned you want to leave the movie untouched i not sure if that is possible, maybe someone with more knowledge can guide you. I know you can also convert it to mpg but again thats not somethig you can put back to a dvd like it came. dvds are a whole bunch of files that make up the movie. but dont worry someone here can help you.

I don't want to use any compression at all. Although movies in DivX are very good, I find you can see a quality difference when played on a very large TV. I know this will leave me with 8 GB movies, but I have alot of room.

I have looked through this forum but can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. If I use DVD Decrypter, I get VOB files and IFO files in a VIDEO_TS folder. I want to generate one file, like a music file, that I can click on and play the movie. Maybe this isn't possible, I don't know. Thanks again for any help.

Well i would suggest using dvdd to get vobs ifo files onto your hard drive then convert them to mpg 2 files, just google VOB to mpg files.or search the forums for VOB to mpg.

i want to stream them to my xbox360, so i can only play mpegs or WMVs. I have been successful in getting to the VOB files, and i have DVD2AVI, but i don't know how to get it to produce an AVI. a link to a guide would be great, as i have software for converting AVI to wmv and it works like a charm.

i suppose ratDVD might actually be useful in this situation, or DVD Shrink in output to iso file...
just to save space and conserve quality
