Trouble Formatting DVD +RW with Nero 6.6

I can't remember how to format a DVD +RW with nero. I did it once, and now it's killing me that I can't remember how I did it. I tried to "quick erase" the disc, but it says it's an illegal disc. I ended up burning something small, and then erasing the disc, but I remember somehow I had formatted a different disc before. I remember seeing a formatting option. Maybe I got it confused with a different program, but I am pretty sure it was Nero. Anyone know why I can't format them? I bought the COMPUSA brand.

Just out of curiosity, what's the MID (manufacture/media id) on that CompUSA media you have? Perhaps, you've just answered your own question here. I don't recommend buying CompUSA or any other cheap/unknown brands. Use high quality media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "Advanced Azo" and Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan).

I use Dvdinfopro when I format any blank +RW media. I select fast format. You can download a free version here:

This program also gives you info on your media, drives and other stuff as well.

CompUSA +RW media is going to be manufactured by either Infodisc or Optodisc ... Both are utter rubbish

Unfortunately your +RW choices are rather limited as Taiyo Yuden does not manufacture rewritable discs .. Buy Verbatim +RW and if you have a hard time finding them, get Office Depot +RW (they're made by Ricohjpn and are tolerable... Good brand names to be cautious of are Maxell (+RW are made by Philips) and HP (+RW also made by Philips)

As far as finding +RW discs with 'Advanced Azo' dyes .. ain't gonna happen .. azo dyes are not rewritable and are only used for premium +R and -R discs ..RW discs use totally different dyes in their manufacturing process
