i was planning to buy this also to hold my movies but, i read up on it storing psp files are ok. but using the harddrive on video playback with 1.5fw isnt smooth. after reading around most people wrote that encoding with this hrdware then playing with 1.5fw audio and video are out of sync, also poor play back. the video encoder to mpg4 pkg software was meant to run with 2.0 fw.

I could be wrong, but how is H.264\AVC going to be any better then normal Mp4, when the bottleneck lays with the CompactFlash\MicroDrive to MemoryStick? Bus.

As I understand it this also happens to thoss naughty, naughty People who use *.iso's too. So whatever is going on it purely a Hardware problem with the current design....

I was considering this aswell for the huge capacity it can store...

But then i reminded my self of the title of the device...PSP - Play Station Portable...not Play Station Portable with a bus stuck to it.

Needless to say i decided not to buy it and get a lightweight, portable and fast 1gb Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo and indeed keep my Play Station Portable actually portable... :)

fellas, remember the speed...

the 4GB is so slow it skips during video and music playback.
it makes the PSP so chunky it can't fit in the soft case or the Logitech Playgear Pocket.
You CAN change the CF/MD card for a higher speed, bigger capacity (thus more expensive) one. You can get a high-speed (about the same speed as a normal sony DUO (not pro duo))200GB for say a few thousand buckaroos.

I was told to change my sig so I did this.

It's a good thing I came here before dropping the $230 on this badboy. I figured it was a no-brainer being only $30 more than a 2gb duo pro, but with the inherent issues mentioned I guess not. 2gb is plenty for most homebrew games anyway right?

and u guys wrong movies and music work perfectly on it as well as every thing else.

u can acually fit the psp in the soft case just squesse it in a little and if u dont want ur psp getting scratched do what i did and get a clear protecter over the screen.

@libenja

just noticed your sig is not conforming to the rules. i recall asking you before to remove the disguised references to email addresses. plus the signature is far too large, you can keep stuff in your profile page but the email references are gonna have to go.
