I've been going through the Nero logs and in the past almost 2 weeks I have yet to see a succesful log that used Ritek. I think all of them have failed at the bottom of the logs. Is anyone else noticing this? I think it was Alkohol that first pointed this out to me. It doesn't matter what speed they are burning at, it's all failed. I think this is worse than CMC because I don't see a CMC disc fail EVERYTIME. Normally when I see a log with CMC it's for a different problem, skips, glitches etc, the occasional failure but they can't keep up with Ritek lately. Is this a new generation of Riteks or what?

I recently ordered a 50 pack of Ritek from Newegg.com with media code R03 and they are absolutely terrible. Before trying these I had always used RiData discs(RICOHJPN R01) and never had any problems. The R01 RiData's always give me a 90+ quality score in Nero quality tests...with these Ritek 03's, I have had a few zeros and only one acceptable burn out of about 10 so far. My drive is a LiteOn 1673s (latest firmware), and I have tried burning them slow with no improvement. After doing a little research, it seems that these Ritek R03's are very inconsistent from batch to batch, although it seems some people love them and have never had a problem. I for one will not be buying these again.

I have had Ritek problems even with the venerable G04. I have cut back my disk burning to 4200mb to avoid end of movie pixelation, but freezes and pixelation continue. Burner not at vault as Verbatim and TY disks doing just fine even burning 4450mb! I think Ritek has lost their quality control.

@GlueEater

How's it going buddy? Nice catched there... yeah, it was I, who spotted a lot (probably close to 10 or more on Nero's log) of failed Ritek burned. I can't really comment in query to Ritek, since now I primarily used are genuine Yuden, Verbatim "Advanced Azo" and Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan). I know Ritek is suppose to be a good media, but somehow tons of newbies are having failure burned using Ritek media. Hopefully someone will be able to clarify and or answer that in query to your question.

NOTE: keep in mind though, most of them newbies were burning at 8X and nearly half of them don't have the latest firmware on their burner. So perhaps that's the main issue (I could be wrong) right there.

My Ritek problems are not related to outdated firmware, and I always burn at 4X. I have two diferent burners in my computers and the Ritek related issues are the same. These problems are not seen with TY or Verbatim disks.

hi guys :)
am i the only person in the whole world to have complete success with Ritek? if so why? after all i have used G04..G05..RO3..D01. i have now run out of G05 so am now useing R03 bitset -rom
i have never used Nero to do my burning. so with me thats out of the equation.
i always use Decrypter. never ever burn more than 1/2 the rated speed of the disc. (even with the few TY/Verbs i've tried)
so the only common factor with these failures is Nero. perhaps that is the problem.
So! i happen to have Nero sat on the shelf, and am prepared to install it and give it a whirl, give me time to work out how to use it and i will post my results later.
if i get a bad burn i will read the log (which by expert tuition from creaky and alkohol i can now do) i will again post my findings.
i will burn one flat out (shudders in dismay) and one at my normal speed, and to be fair i will burn one with Decrypter flat out
the one thing i cannot do is downgrade any of my system i'm afraid
this is NOT a snipe ..dig or challenge to or at anyone (i have far to much respect for the ppl on AD to do so)

I use ritek dye for most of my burns with Nero.. i'm using the ridisc extreme (ritek G05 dye) 8x DVD-R at the moment... I haven't had a single coaster. But then again, I get all my media from a reputable company that tell you what dye it is on each particular batch of discs. I also bought some verbatim that has Taiyo yuden (TYG02) dye.
I think in total I have made around 300 movie backups and around 150 ps2 backups mostly using ritek G05.

I was a Ritek only user but started to experience problems with bad burns. You could see bad spots on the dye layer on some of them. I have since only used Taiyo Yuden and have had 100% success with them. I think Ritek quality isn't what it used to be. All have been purchased through a legit dealer.

All my Ritek problems were with Decryptor burning images from DVD Shrink.

I have not had any problem with the Office Depot branded or Maxell R03's. All burns turned out great.

Cheers.

My problematic disks were Ridata 4X DVD-R coding as G04. Later tried 8X G05 but were worse. The Verbatim and TY 8x DVD-Rs were great.

my experience is a little different on MY setup, with various burners...

my 500+ Ritek Ridata 8x DVD-R RitekGO5s are great, but my TYs DVD-R (regardless of speed) are greater! LOL (i don't use Verbatim DVD-R, i am a DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom guy myself..so, on the Verb bandwagon, my 8x/16x DVD+R MCC003/MCC004 are great too~)

i don't know what's going on w/ Ritek quality control...seems even more recently, MORE people are reporting issues...i dunno, i'm sticking with my TYs...just got me 2 thousand more DVD-R, on sale! LOL (just to keep myself somewhat "balanced" between DVD-R and DVD+R usage, don't want to be too "one-sided" with Taiyo Yuden)

I use DVD-R because:
My old Set top player doesn't recognize DVD+R and neither of my burners change booktype. One burner is a Pioneer DVD-108 and the other is a three year old NEC for which there is no hacked firmware to allow Bitsetting. So DVD-R it is for me, but at least no compatibility complaints.

I've been using Maxell dvd-r's for about a 1 1/2 years and had one bad burn. All different media codes. The 8x ones that I've been using for about 4 months now have all been coded Ritek G05. No problems until this last cake box of 50. 9 bad burns near the end of all movies.I've been burning at 4360mb all along. You can see a line just a little back from the edge of the disk.I thought I just got a bad batch but after reading this thread, I'm not so sure now.

Outer edge problems were the curse of the old Ritek G03s, which otherwise would have been acceptable 2X disks. Things improved modestly with the 4X G04s, but there have been more problems with these now than 2 years ago. The 8X G05s were worse when they came out, then improved considerably, but recently have been worse again.

i've noticed this too, almost exactly as you stated :) i guess when i got my G05s a few years back, they were the "good batch", perhaps i'm lucky in regards to Ritek...mine are all fine, the few coasters i did make out of my 500 used were MY OWN FAULT, was experimenting on my system and POOF~! dud~ hehe

happy holidays all
