I have a DVD+RW burned off the HDD on my BENQ PVR. For some reason my TMPGEnc DVD Authoring software doesn't recognise the disc although all my other software does. I am able to use DVD Decryptor to create the extracted files from this disc, but TDA does not recognise this file list as "legal" and asks only for MPEG2 files (I find this strange, as it normally has no problem extracting video direct from a DVD disc - including many that I have burned on my Daytek P30).
How can I resolve this without buying more software (this is a one-off exercise). I have Shrink, Decryptor, U-Lead Movie Studio, and TMPGEnc. Presumably all I have to do is convert VOB to MPEG2 for my TDA to accept them however. Can I just rename the file extensions from VOB to MPEGs?
What I would Do is Use "Smartripper" to Rip the DVD as a Single M2V Video File and an AC3 audio file and then you can Load them seperately into TMPGEnc DVD author and Create your DVD....
Smartripper is Freeware and a Good DVD Ripper.....
What you do is First Put the DVD-RW in your Drive then wait about 15 seconds and then Run SmartRipper and click the "Settings" button and set "File Splitting" to "Max File Size" and then set the "Max File Size to "9000mb"...
Then go into the "Stream Processing" settings and Highlight the Video Stream and then click the "Demux to extra File" option ...
Then Highlight the audio Stream and click the "Demux to extra File" option , then close the window and select your output directory and click "Start" and in a few Minutes you will have a M2V Video file and an AC3 audio file that you can author directly to DVD.....
Wow, this is way more information than I could have hoped for. I will have to wait until over the Christmas to try this out. There are two disks involved as I recorded to the HDD in HQ so it required two DVDs when I did the dub down. Will this make any difference to the process you outlined? I am assuming that I can still use TDA to rejoin the two halves and add a menu and that the join will be seamless as long as I am careful not to remove any frames at either end?.
You should be able to Author both halves to DVD and have them Play seamlessly...I don"t know if you can do that in TMPGEnc DVD Author because I don"t use it but I can do that no problem useing DVDLab Pro which is the One I usually use.....
Thanks Minion - Couldn't wait til Christmas - your idea worked like a charm. I am in my sixties and work for a game developer, so I am fairly tech savvy. However I have always balked at doing any demuxing during my two years of transferring tape to disc, as I was scared of getting synchronization problems (I used to get this with some of my early attempts using a capture card, but since I switched to the Daytek PVR nothing goes wrong).
Following your instructions was easy, and the TDA software patched everything back together faultlessly with perfect sound synch. However I need to upgrade to the new version with full AC3 support as working without audio when you are editing is a bit of a hit and miss affair. I now need to bone up on SmartRipper as I have always used DVD Decrypter. Does it do a lot more like this?
Well I"m Glad it worked out for you.....SmartRipper is a Good ripping program with a Lot of Features but the Draw Back is that when ripping Retail DVD"s it doesn"t support some of the Newer Bad Sector Copy Protections but if you have AnyDVD installed also then it can rip any DVD.....
You shouldn"t experience Sync problems doing that as a Sync problems would usually only occur if the audio Length somehow gets Changed which is the cause of Most Sync Problems.....
I used DVD decryptor and them Womble's MPEG2VCR software to convert two VOB files to MPEG, then uploaded the files to my web site.
I now have a copy of the MPEG files on both my hard drive and my ISP host (Earthlink). When I play the file from my hard drive, the video and audio are fine. Yet when I click on the file from my web site host, the video plays, yet NO AUDIO.
Can someone tell me why this is, and how I can get the audio from the file on my ISP to play along with the video?
Also when I ripped these files they ended up being over 100MB. Yet I see other MPEG files of a similar duration that are ~10 MB. Is there any way to compress these files to a more manageable size?
