After lots of reading, I've come to the conclusion that I may well have driver problems. I have a bunch of programs installed, including trial versions, in approximately this order:
Roxio, DVDXCopy, DVDDecrypter, DaemonTools, InstantCopy, IFOEdit, Nero, Fiero (sp?), ImgTools, possibly some others.
Begining with Roxio, and trying to deinstall, I see their drivers are sticky. After as complete a deinstall as I can do, and using Fiero, I can see I have about 50 drivers loaded.
Questions:
1. How can I figure out which ones are leftover Roxio drivers?
2. I have at least one GEAR driver running, and its already screwed up my tape backup drive. I'k like to uninstall DVDXCopy. How can I figure out if any other products/programs use that driver?
