After a lot of trial and error, which should have worked just like the software manufacturers (lying thieves) say with simple select file, choose menu, etc then click burn, I was finally getting workable dvds which would play on my regular dvd player (toshiba SDV392 dvd/vcr), not only my computer.

Now, all of a sudden, when burning even the exact same projects and even iso s of home movies ive made whether from scratch again using video files, or the saved iso projects, after burning them to dvd using Nero Vision Express 2 (which is same program i originally authored and burned successfully to dvd with) the resulting dvds will ONLY play on computer using media player program - but NOT on dvd player which is the whole purpose of buying these junky software programs! AARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!!>?

I am sooo frustrated. Now I know why so many people are completely fed up with these thieving corporations who put out trashy, incomplete, buggy products and then go after people who arenet millionaries who cant afford to buy product after product so resort to trading them to compensate for all their inadequacies, bugs, and generally shoddy creations.

Im using windows XP PRo, SP2, 80GB harddrive,
Memorex Double layer +/-RW 16X burner.
Using Nero Vision Express2 package.
Recently started also trying to use Ulead Movie Factory to compensate for limitations and restrictions in format of Nero package.
Dont know if the installation and use of Ulead may have interferred and altered somehow the ability of Nero to burn usable dvds that will continue to play on dvd players? Shouldnt. That would be some pretty shoddy design!?

When I put these attempted dvds now in my dvd player, which was reading and playing these same dvd movie projects fine before, the player just says reading...reading...then stops reading and never even recognizes a readable dvd disc as being inserted.

I just bought some Verbatim DVD-Rs as i heard these were better then the Memorex dvd+r 8X that i was using before. They seem to record data fine. But not working on dvd player at all! Please help?
I shouldt have to "update" anything, just to continue to make working dvds like before. It should either work, or if it doesnt its trash.

Is your burner firmware up-to-date?
Is your Nero up-to-date?
What speed are you burning at?

"Is your burner firmware up-to-date? "
I dont know what that means or is? I just bought this burner one month ago, though, new.

"Is your Nero up-to-date? " It was working, as mentioned then just stopped, all using same burner, settings and dvds as far as i can tell. I havent gone any manual updating, though. If it was working, it shouldnt suddenly stop working because of an update. If it does, that sounds more like a built in virus or ad/spyware to me. I dont like having to continually log on or download updates from software manufacturers just to keep a program i paid for running / working properly. Shouldnt they simply work fine from the box, is how i feel.Especially if it was, kindof, working, albeit with its many limitations in menu, options, etc.

"What speed are you burning at?"
8X and less. Sometimes only 2X or 4X.

I have however, been able to use DVD Decryptor again to burn some of my iso projects that i already have backedup on my computer. However, i also want to edit some of my home movies still, which is major reason i bought all this stuff, to film and create my own hoome movies with chapter, music, menues, etc.

Anyway, Ive been able to use the DVD Decryptor again to read and write from past projects ive burned successfully to dvd. Problem is, i still cant use the Nero or Ulead software to burn many of my formerly burnable AVI & mpeg files into movie dvds.

- Thanks for helping.

i think the problem may be in your media, if you are using memorex burn them (as in fire burn them) they are absolutely useless rubbish...

try buying a better quality media like verbatim and seeing whether it works...

Well, its actually the Memorex, which i had first been using, which were working okay.

I just bought two 50 packs of Verbatim DVD-Rs on sale and have been tring to burn these, when this problem seems to have restarted.

Though its also happening with the Verbatims, as well as Memorexs now.

Its not the media.

I just tried yet AGAIN to complete a successful burn, at slowest speed which took nearly two frigging days, using Verbatim DVD-rs.
When playing it on my DVD player (whever i say dvd player i mean NOT computer ) it took about ten seconds of trying to read to finally recogfnize it as a DVD. But then it start freezing up right away.

This is insanely absurd. How these crappy, unintegral theiving people behind these corporations putting out such junk expect people to give them over their hard earned money is astonishing!

They should be paying us to put up with trying to use their trashy, bugridden stuff!

Why is this happening? I cant figure it out. Im doing everything "right".

But the dvds play fine on computer using windows media player.
I did not pay for this trashy software and dvd burner to play the discs on computer, of course.

I have actually used both + and - r dvds, to same useless effect.
That was a considertion, so i went back and redid same projects using my +r dvds, still only work again in pc but either not even recognized at all when put in normal dvd player or it will show the main page with menu of videos on dvd, at most playing a short portion of one of them then freezing, or more often then not lately just freezes at the initial, main menu screen and goes back to acting like theres no dvd in player at all.

So i went to a store today, and tested some of the dvds i made which were either not being even recognized or not playing past menu mode on my Toshiba DVD / VCR combo #SD-V392 player.
Though the first sales rep at Best Buy was totally uninterested in fulfilling his role as a sales rep or helping me hook up any dvd players to tvs (why they have all these dvd players out but not hooked up to tvs so we can actually play and experience how they work or dont is a question) another sales agent later was considerate and let me hook a couple players to tvs.

And these dvd players i used at the store to test my nonworking dvds (when played on the toshiba dvd player) were cheapo ones -
Philips Progressive Scan DVD player. #DVP642 $60.
and a
Cyberhome Progressive Scan DVD player #CH-DVD3002 $40.

And the DVDS WORKED on them!
But not on my more expensive Toshiba.
The sales rep said alot of people have come in with complaints of their burned dvds not working on dvd players. Especially the more expensive ones. And said that some of the cheap dvd players actaully are much more compatible and reliable for playback of burned dvd videos.

So that was an interesting experience.

Though I did not watch my burned dvds for long, i will say, on the stores dvd players. So i dont know how they would have continued playing all the way through the dvd videos?
They did at least recognize the discs as was sometimes not happenign with toshiba, and played the menu and the very short time i watched the video portion.

Though one did not play, and it was a VCD which supposedly burned successfully (according the the Nero Burning 6 software i used.

that is facinating (not sarcastic comment) i always thought that for some unknown reason the cheaper players seem to work better for me...

The guy in the store has told the truth. More cheaper the dvd player is, more compatible with the discs is. When I gave to my friend some home made dvd's -R and +R (Verbatim, Sony, Philips) he told me that his Toshiba player was'nt able to reproduce them. The same discs were working fine everywhere else. Finally we found out that it was able to play only X2 written discs. The same happend with some older Sony's models. Theese are not able to run home made dvd's.
The only think now that you must remember is when that your burner some day will pass away.

Hi I had similar prob with burned discs not playing on anything other than dvd writer I burned them on. Followed the advice given to upgrade the firmware, (my son did this for me as I didn't know what it was either). Reburned discs on upgraded writer & they now play on 5 out of 6 machines I tried them on.

I've burned about 100 + DVD's already, I know, nothing compared to some people, but I have never had a problem playing them in my older GE DVD player. When I backup a movie, I always set the "Book Type" to DVD-ROM

Well, I can't say that it will solve all your problems. But I know that I have yet to have a problem playing any of my Backups in a standalone DVD player. MY DVD player is about 5 years old give or take and I got it sometime before Burning movies was a thing to do.

I like to always set the "BookType" to DVD-ROM so that standalone players can't/won't know that the disk is a DVD+-R

But give it a shot with a DVD or 2, see what you get?!

How do I booktype a burned dvd to dvdrom? I generally use Nero 6 & its related programs, and have windvd but it is always having errors and wont even complete burns. And use dvd decryptor.

Im still having the video & audio out of synch problems though when trying to burn dvds from video files. As soon as i load video files into Nero or other programs to burn, even before burning them, when previewing project the audio is @ 2 seconds after where it should be synched with the video portion of videos to burn. And nothing ive done has changed it. Someone said i need more space, even though i have @ 10GB free on my notebook main harddrive and @ 16GB free on external harddrive. Which seems like it should be plenty of free space? Does it matter if i compose project on main harddrive or an external hardrive? Though they are connected through a slower usb port, not a firewire port.
