Hi

I was wondering if someone from the UK can point me in the right direction with regard to converting VHS to DVD.
I know how to do it, just not happy with my results so far, the setup i use is from the VCR to the PC i have the red/white audio leads going to a 3 1/2 mm jack into the PC, and an S-video from the VCR to the PC, all this comes out of the Scart on the VCR using an adapter i got in Dixons, i record it on the PC using Magix, then burn to DVD, it works but the pic is not very good.

Is there a better way ??

I keep hearing about Firewire, is this the way to go, my PC does have a 4 pin and 6 pin Firewire socket, can i attach the Firewire to my VCR somehow or ami i going in the wrong direction completley with this !!

Cheers

Your Quality Issues are Probably Due to your Capture device, It odviously isn"t a Very good one or the Quality would be Better....

Most Cheaper Capture Cards will only Produce Mediocre quality and if you want Good Qualuty Captures you have to Invest the Money and get a Good Capture device....

The Only way you would be able to Capture Through Firewire is If you had one of those Very expensive VCR"s that has a Built in Analogue to Digital Converter and has a 1394 Firewre Output OR if you had a Capture Device like the "Canopus ADVC-110/300" which uses Hardware DV Compression and Transfers the Video to your PC Via Firewire in DV AVI format and the Quality is about as Good as you can get From VHS and a Capture device Under $1000....

You can get a "Canopus ADVC-110" for about $250 US or the "Canopus ADVC-300" for about $450 US...If you want High Quality Trouble Free Captures then these are the Best devices you can get....

You can also Get something like the "Hauppaggue WinTV PVR-150/250" for under $100 that uses Hardware Mpeg compression and the Quality is Quite Good and since the Compression is Hardware there is No Strain on your CPU while Captureing so you can do other Stuff while Captureing and you don"t get Dropped Frames or Sync problems that you get with other Non Hardware Capture Cards and the Card works with "MagiX Movie Edit Pro 10".....
