Denon 2805 remote question

I have 2 dvd player and I would like to program both into the denon2805 remote but I cant get how you switch between dvd and vdr and also I cant seem to get the call2 button to work by following the programing instructions ..Is there a different step to take to program the second call button as call 1 work fine

The bad thing about a Denon, is the remote. They are aggrevating and frustrating to learn.

Invest in an "One for All" universal remote with learning features. You should be able to find a 6 to 8 device for around $20. They really aren't that hard to set up. Use your learning keys to input the functions that you use most often. Then you can put all those other remotes in a box.

I'm afraid I don't know how to answer you question (I have a 3805). Denon does have a number posted in their web site that you can call (I'm not sure if it's in the manual; I'm at work and can't check). I was going to post a link for you but Denon's site isn't opening at the moment for some reason.
@JVC: you've got that right...I love my Denon 3805 but the remote is a pain in the butt. To make matters worse, it's backlit with multiple menues...I can't see crap up close and have to running around looking for my glasses in order to use it; guess I should tie some glasses to a string and nail them to my coffee table! Once you're use to a remote with buttons, you can feel you're way around when operating it. Sounds like a silly complaint but it isn't. Having said that, I'm glad I bought the 3805 anyway.

I told my wife that I want a Harmony remote for Christmas.
It remains to be seen if I get it or not.
At the HT forums, I hang out at, everyone that owns a Harmony, loves it! They are a bit pricey though. Cheapest one I've seen is $150. The one I'd really like to have, is $250. Oh well. Maybe one day!

that harmony remote is nice, one of our radio stations gives one away free per day, i have tried and tried to win it, but i always get the busy signal.. i already have a touch screen remote, its nice, but i dropped it one day and the screen has 3 black blotches in it. that remote that mackdl said you should get will not work for you. you need a 'learning remote control' that way you can point the original remote to the new remote and it will 'learn' the functions.
those 20 $ remotes are crap for a H/T setup.....
sony has a nice one too, selling for 150-200 bucks.... check e-bay from time to time, sometimes they have nice deals...
mine does multiple macros functions... i control everything with that remote, my ceiling fans, window blinds, tv, avr, ps2, dvd player, dish satellite........ and even my sons remote control car !!!
its pretty neat what it/they can do!!!!
@ gerry........ you can make a profile for yourself now, even create a blog entry too, add members to your buddy list... you will see members that have a profile by the name highlighted in blue and underlined !!

@gear...WHOPPIE!!! Got promoted to "member";...guess you noticed. Thanks for the info, gear; I took a quick look at the profile page etc. but no time today. You know, I never particulary saw myself getting much involved with a site like this but that has sure changed; such great people here and much to be learnt; I'm not much of the "techie" sort but I love to learn, I've learnt a lot already and love to pitch in where my knowledge, albeit limited, can be useful. I want to learn as much about the site, its capabilities, functions and most of all, it's people as I can. You and so many others here are just awesome! Have a good one! ....Gerry

Actually gear79 the $20 remotes DO have learning keys (4 of them for each device) and macro functions. I was suggesting a "reasonably" priced remote to simplify having a multitude of remotes.
I have the Cinema6+ URC6801 which I paid $10 CAD (on sale). It has learning and macro functions.

mine does, it was 150 bucks. (usd) rca brand, not my choice, but it was a gift, so i cant complain.

The Kameleon line of One for All have touch screens, however, these are pricey but do go on sale.
I find the older one gets, the more simplified one wants to be. Personally, ours works just fine for our uses. I have the learned functions I want and if I need to change something more complicated I get out the original remote, or change it manually on the Denon. The macro(s)is set to turn on the TV, amp, and cable to news or sports depending on who is using it. We also have a Philips Touchpad remote. I hate it, has an annoying beep everytime you touch it. LOL

@mackdl: Are you satisfied with the Cinema6 + URC6801? Are there features that you wished you'd considered when you bought it? I don't know what model Denon you have but our remotes must be similar. I don't like Denon's remote at all; I figured I'd just put up with it but I'm having second thoughts after reading what you guys have written. You wrote "I find the older one gets, the more simplified one wants to be" ... certainly is true for me too! Has switching remotes made it easier that Denon's remote? I don't mind using the original remote or the unit itself when need be but I often toy with the volume of the center or surrounds depending on what I'm watching or change the digital functions; will your remote allow that or should I just stick with the original?

I noticed in quite a few of your other posts that you somehow quote from someone else's post. How do you do that? I've tried using the instructions above this reply box for bold or quotes but I've got to be doing something wrong; it just doesn't show. Thanks!

Yes, that's exactly what I meant; I'll print it out and give it a shot next time it comes up. I did see the instructions at the top of the page but I was doing something wrong as what I put in brackets stayed in brackets! Needless to say, I can pretty dense sometimes! Thanks gear!

Jvc.........I am a member of Costco (Canada), and actually ordered a digital camera for my mother-in-law this past Xmas. This was my very first online order with Costco. Tracking number was included. Excellent service, delivered to "her" door in 2 days, hadn't even shown up on my credit card. I was very impressed.
I believe that you can order online even if you are NOT a member. It says under "Membership Requirements" non-members will be charged a 5% surcharge over the members's posted price.

The only thing I didn't like was being charged Ontario taxes (destination) as I live in British Columbia. They are higher.......egads...and I thought ours were high.

@gerry1,
I don't change the volumes that often. When I do, I take out the Denon remote, keep pressing the "enter" key til I get to the speaker I want to change, then the left or right arrow, depending on whether I want to raise or lower the volume.
Doing the same on the Cinema6, just brings up one speaker. Haven't quite got it figured out.

Harmony's are the best remotes on the market. If you surf ebay you can generally get the $150-$175 models for about $100...well worth it especially if you have a few thousand dollars invested in equipment.

I recomend getting a universal remote...I have own nothing but denon recievers and my ownly complaints have been with the remotes...they are not layed out well and Denons instructions or usually horrid...I can say they are excellent with customer service...I use their DJ equipment also and any time I have had issues they have responded quickly...even if it was my own stupidity.

We ended up getting the Harmony 628 remote from Sam's Club. It usually sells for $129.95, at most places. Even online. Sam's sells it for $79.95 at the stores.
It's a little time consuming to set it up (program it), but once you get it set up right, it's great! There's a button labeled "Watch A Movie". When I push that (with everything turned off), it turns on the tv, puts it on the right input (Video 1), turns on the dvd player, turns on the A/V receiver, and puts it in the dvd mode. All with just one button. When I push the button for "Watch TV", it turns on the tv (right input again), turns on the digital cable box, turns on the A/V receiver (again, puts it in correct mode), and you're good to go! This thing is really amazing!
There's a button for "Listen to Music". The default is for tape player, but I changed it to cd player for that button. Set up a different button for tape player. There's one for "Listen to Radio". I set up one for "Record DVD".
I know some of you may be familiar with these remotes already, but this info is more for the folks that's not familiar with them. I like this remote a lot!
