I'm a newbie and really need some help. My DVD burner is a NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A 202C (ATA). I have the ISO image of a DVD-9 on my desktop and am trying to burn it onto a dual layer DVD(ricohjpn code). I think my burner supports it. But I keep getting this message:

I/O Error!

Don't think your burner likes your disk. I did check and does say it will work.

Your firmware is way out of date, could be why you are having problems go here for update current is 2.24

Unless you are running a Dell comp and then the firmware is 2.03D

Yeah, I have a Dell laptop. So should I download the 2.24 or 2.03D? Also, I've heard horror stories of people updating their firmware and it causing their DVD burner to stop working. Think I'll be okay?

Since you have a Dell then it is the 2.03D, or if you are really worried then go to the Dell site and plug in you Service Tag and check for the current update for your drive. I have two Dells and this how I update. I also have an older Nec drive 1300a and have flashed it with no problem. I would try Verbatim DL's as they seem to work the best, but that is my opinion. Good luck

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out. I'm using fuji DL disks(ricohjpn). I think it's decent media. I'll try the upgrade and go from there. Thanks!

Flashing is always a risk, and if its working for you then sometimes you can just ease back. But when your burner won't recognize newer media you got to take the plunge. Those Fuji's are pretty new to the market, although they are supposed to be good, have not tried them myself. So again Good Luck and hope that you get that backup done. Merry Xmas and Happy Burning New Year

What burning software are you using? I have updated my firmware to 203d and I am still having problems reading the verbatim dvd+r dl media. The Nero InfoTool says I just have a blank CD-R and windows acts like it is a blank cd-r.I have a Dell Latitude d610. What else should I try?

Thanks!
Patrick

I'm using Fuji DVD+R(ricohjpn)disks, with the DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter. I've never had a problem with the two. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 6000, and everything is working fine after updating the flash to 2.03D

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the Nero 7 demo and everything worked fine. Looks like I need to upgrade!
