I ripped two movies used dvd shrink w/o any compression. Yes, I know. I probably should have used dvd decrypter if I wasn't compressing.
Anyway, I have some ritek media that I got from newegg. Each disk burned fine but I figured I'd check the movie. I fast forwarded until I got to around 1 hour. I figured this would be about the time of the layer switch. Sure enough, the disk skipped. It jumped forward about 5 minutes. The skipped data was actually there, I could rewind and see it.
I know people have seen this before but I haven't seen anyone come to a conclusion yet. Does the skipping tend to be media related, burner related, or software related? Has anyone with the skips gotten around them by doing anything other than using a different burner or media?
I am by no means an expert at the dual layers. Only burned a handful myself. I have seen previously that others had issues with Nero and the dual layers. I know they are kinda pricey to experiment with but I would definately give DVD Decryptor a try for the decryption and burn. That is the only one I've used and my burns are flawless with dual layer. I was using the Verbatim and not Ritek. But I don't think the Ritek is your problem here.
I have come to the conclusion that using decripter or shrink or any of the others is toooo much trouble. I started using DVDFAB http://www.dvdidle.com/ 2 months ago and it is a whole lot less trouble.I think this is the only way to do burns
@walkerda
The skipping could be related to the 3 things you mentioned. Use decrypter to read and write in iso mode. When burning pick the .mds file. Also make sure your drive's firmware is up to date.
i agree with binkie, could be one or all of those things..however, i believe i was ONE of those people neodave mentioned about DL burns...i personally use DVD Decrypter, iso read..iso write, or DVD Decrypter iso read...imgburn write~ :)
but, as to Nero...version 6 has a definite problem w/ the layer break, i've done/seen it myself...while i do not consider that DL disc a "coaster", it's very annoying...
i would suggest using DVD Decrypter to do the ripping and burning in ISO mode...i've seen it mentioned that dvdfab express does a fairly decent job too for the whole process onto DL media...
nero was too much of a pain, i'm sure there are other alternatives for successful DL burning...i just stick to what has worked FOR ME...100+ dvd+DLs now and counting...i also only have used/tried Verbatim and Ritek Ridata, BOTH BRANDS work very well FOR ME and my setup~ :)
