Does anyone know of a program that can drastically reduce the size of a vob file with out loosing quality? I recently downloaded a movie and to my surprise it was the entire DVD. Now I'm experienced at burning, and ripping, but to my surprise, this file was a DVD vob file that was actually, believe it or not, only 2.5 GB. I use DVD shrink to shrink my DVDs to fit on a 4.7 GB file, and also experimented with making the file as small as I could get it. But it always lost its quality when I shrank it two small. This 2.5 GB file seemed to have lost no quality. Burned it using DVD shrink and had PLENTY of space left on the DVD-R.

you wish to shrink the 2.5 GB movie smaller? Or are you talking about other movies that you've taken to 4.7?

No. I just want to shrink a movie smaller then DVD Shrink without loosing all of that quality. Like I said, the file was 2.5 gb and it's quality was great. DVD Shrink quality gets worse. I'm tring to find that program that can get a .VOB file down to 2.5 or less GB.

I think that you are looking for something like Canopus ProCoder or Canopus ProCoder Express for Edius. They will allow you to set the "length" of the output to pre-determined "times" (such as 60, 90 or 120 minutes). THus giving you some control over the output size.

I've also used VSO's DivXtoDVD free version (you'll have to search for an older version that doesn't have the watermark). It produces outputs of good quality with small file sizes (less than 4 GB. Usually, about 1.5 to 2.5 GB).

Keep in mind, anytime you compress a movie your going to have a loss of quailty to some degree. Even with DVD Shrink.
