I have found some DL + discs on special at the moment. Can someone please tell me what is more compatible with dvd players today plus or minus dual layer discs? I am not going to buy cheaper DL plus discs only to find out not too many players will play them properly or that minus is the more acceptable format. Not sure why plus dual layer discs came out before minus.

as of this point, i have yet to even try a DVD-R DL, most my burners are not even capable of burning onto them...lol :)

but, your question about compatibility, from MY experience, if you booktype your DVD+R DL, like i do on ALL of them, i haven't a single one not play on various standalones i've tried them on...about 8 diff. standalones between myself, family, friends, acquaintances, retail stores...lol~

so, whether they will PLAY or not can be an issue..but, IF YOU GET CHEAP/POOR QUALITY DLs, which by your statement it seems like that is going to be the case, even if you booktype them to dvd-rom (if your burner is capable of bitsetting/booktyping), they still might have playback issues such as pixellating, freezing, etc...all the known problems of POOR QUALITY media, whether it be single layer or the DL~

i've got over 100 DVD+R DLs under my belt now, i've ONLY used 2 brands...Verbatim (made in singapore) and Ritek Ridata (made in taiwan), i personally have had great success with both, but i feel Verbatim is #1 at the moment in terms of QUALITY. :) i haven't used any others, so i can't comment on them...but, the media ID codes for the 2 i have used are in my sig...

lot of people report problems w/ the Ritek DLs, but i for one have not had problems yet *knock on wood*, they are almost ALWAYS cheaper (less expensive) than the Verbatims (even on sale), but for ME and MY setup/burning...they work just fine...

good luck, perhaps someone with experience in the DVD-R DL can add to this thread...i for one have not and will probably NEVER do so...my DVD+R DLs work great, so why fix something that ain't broke?

DVD+R DL for me hands down!!! Why...? because you can easily Book Type them into DVD-ROM = means no worry = play in all functional dvd players.

Keep in mind to use high quality DL media like Verbatim DVD+R DL though.
