I encoded AVI clip in TMPGenc. First I used virtualdubmod to separate video and audio. I dubbed using direct stream, full processing mode with no compression. I disabled audio and created separate wave file. After encoding in TMPGenc (ES audeo video format by default from dubbing)I muxed saved wav with encoded mpg file. I cannot get Powerlink CyberDBD or Intervideo WinDVD 5 to play both video and sound, only video. Is it possible that it may be due to HD? The video shows HDTV used in this video. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
How did you Mux the Wav file and the Mpeg-2 Video???
Hopefully you didn"t use TMPGEnc because it doesn"t support Muxing Wav audio...
Also did you check that the Wav File actually had audio in it??
What was the audio Format in the AVI file that you are encodeing??
When extracting the audio to wav in Virtual-Dub in "Direct Stream Copy" mode, it will only work if the audio in the Original AVI File was Wav, which I doubt it was ,so you should have had the "Audio" set to "Full Processing mode" when extracting the audio to Wav format...
If the AVI audio is Dolby AC3 and you extract the audio to wav with it set to "Direct stream Copy" then the extracted wav file will not be a real wav file it will be a Dolby AC3 File with a Wav header...
To get this AC3 file with a Wav header to a real AC3 file you have to rename the Wav file to AC3 and then use a Tool Like "AC3 Fix" or "BeSliced" to Fix the header and turn it into a Real Dolby AC3 file...
Also you Should "NOT" use Wav audio on DVD"s because the Format uses up way too much Disk Space so you should be encodeing the Wav audio to either Dolby AC3 or to Mpeg-1 Layer-2 audio whic are easy to Mux with Mpeg-2 Video....
Thank you for the information. The WAV file did play audio when I loaded it. Videodubmod gives me a prompt when I load the AVI file that says VirtrualDubMod has detected an improper VBR Audio encoding in the source AVI file. File information shows an audio tag: Tag: 0X0055, ACM Decodable MPeg-1 layer 3 (MP3)with compression: Fraunhofer IIS MPEG layer-3 codec. I want to say I have an MP3 Audio? Do I need more information? Do I need to "Besliced" this to fix the header and save to an AC3 filetype? Am I correct to separate the video and audio in VideoDubmod and then mux together the saved audio file, after fixing the header, and video file? I will start again on this file and see how far i can get.
I have a VBR-MP3 audio I guess. Using VirtualDubMod the video stream is in 'direct stream copy'while the audio stream is set to 'full processing mode'. I saved audio in .WAV and it does play sound. Do I need now to fix the mp3 file with a .wav extention? How, by renaming with .mp3? Can I now encode using TMPGEnc?
Now you can Load it into Tmpgenc and encode it to Mpeg-2/DVD But this Time select "Mpeg-1 layer-2" as the audio Format and set the "Stream Type" to "System(Audio & Video)" this will give you a DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 file that has audio in it that you can Play in your Software DVD Player and author to DVD ....
You don"t have to use Virtual-Dub to extract the audio because after useing the tool above the Audio in the AVI file will allready be in Wav format which Tmpgenc can read...
So just Use the Tool above to decompress the audio in your AVI file and then encode the AVI file in Tmpgenc to Mpeg-2/DVD useing "Mpeg-1 Layer 2" audio at "192kbs" at "48000hz" and the resulting Mpeg file will have audio and Be DVD Compliant and be ready to author to DVD....

PS: Useing Mpeg-1 layer-2 audio will also Give you better Video quality because you will be able to use a Higher Encodeing Bitrate cuz you won"t have the Wav audio Sucking up 10 times the Disk space that the Mpeg audio does....
I am not able to burn my DVD using DVD Styler with the output from encoding in TMPGEnc. Do you have any suggestion as to which DVD creation software is best to use? Thanks again.
To Put mpeg files on to DVD you need to use a DVD authoring program...Maybe Try "tmpgenc DVD author" ,It will let you add menu"s and Chapter for the Files and then Format it all into a "Video_TS" Folder then you can Burn it to DVD.....
