I had a little project where I wanted to put my set of law and order (3 flipper discs with dvd9's on each side) onto 3 DL discs. I used dvdremake to remove all adverts and warning screens and also to merge the flippers into one folder. The folders were 14.4 gb prior to useing dvd-rb pro/cce to compress them down to 7.85 gb and also make an iso. I then burned the iso's with imgburn with my benq DW1620 pro onto some verbatum 6x dvd+r DL media and booktyped them to dvd-rom. I first tried a 4x burn and had some freezing problem shortly after the media break. I reburned at 2.4x and all is good. Video quality is good even on my 52" hdtv. Better than I expected. Playback is flawless and all menu's are fully functional.

The scans of the DL media are no where near the quality I get with single layor verbatum media but is still acceptable and the ones burned at 2.4x playback flawless. To make a long story short, no more 4x burns with DL media for me.

Here are some scans of a DL disc burned at 4x. It had freezing and pausing right after the layor break.

Here is a scan of the same folder burned on the same media at 2.4x. Although not beautiful, it does play back flawlessly.

I still don't think they have DL media down to a perfected science like the quality single layor media.

Good info Mort...if I ever loosen my pockets up, I'll know what to do (and not to do)

This was my first stab at useing DL media and I guess I should feel fortunate after reading all the problems ppl have had with DL burns but it would be nice to compare some scans of some other successfully burned DL media. Anybody care to post a scan or 2?
