Home DVD players dont play AVI files so you need to convert it to VOB files that it can read. I use DVD santa which converts avi's and many other file formats to just about anything. You could check the download section for a file converter. As DVD santa is not free although I got it from ebay for $5. There is also a section here in afterdawn forum for DVD editing you might have more luck there as AVI files are commonly used for home movies and dvd producers/authors.

another great program that converts video file to any format is VSO Divx2DVD! It will do the job for you. Once you convert your files to DVD format (VOB) then you can burn to a DVD-5 if it doesn't need compression. If it does use the free program called DVDShrink. Then burn to disk using your favorite burning program. There's so many ways of doing things. Once you are comfortable using your programs and you like the results, stick with it or look for others that might be better! You come to the right place to find information. Afterdawn has plenty of members willing to help out! Here is a very useful link that taught me plenty: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136 read it and absorb!

@ megabyte: it might be wise to get the right infomation before you tell some one:

divx players play raw AVI files without the neccessity of converting the AVI to an mpeg2 compatible format.
Did you ask Mommy_Bel this before you answered this question.

@ Mommy_Bel : hi how's it going.

Generally when you download an AVI file it is required to be converted to an mpeg2 compatible format before you attempt to burn it to a dvdr disc.

IHoe has suggested vso DivX to dvd and this is a very good tool for you to start your project with.
Here is a link to a free version:

http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd-r_tools/vso_divxtodvd...

if you have some other issues just repost after you convert the file and we will try to assist you.

Might also suggest that you download avicodec and run your file through it ,then copy and paste the results just to make sure that the program we are suggesting for you is really the right one as there are different types of avi

heres a link:

see how you go

@andmerr, hear hear with the megabyte comment. Might I suggest you burn with CopyToDVD which is also a VSO prog. Just tick the box in DivXtoDVD that is after you download both progs(FREE)
