I am trying to identify what I might be doing wrong when burning DVD's with DVD Shrink 3.2. I am not sure if I am having isuues with my storage media or if I am burning them to quickly and need to slow my burner down. I am having problems with the movies periodically freezing up on replay or pixelizing. I don't think I have a full copy of Nero, just what came factory installed on my computer - so I don't know if I can change the burn speed or not. I apologize for my ignorance of the process - I am a complete newby. Any suggestions on what to check? I tried intially to use Sony brand discs and now have some unknown brand that I ordered from TheTechGeek.com, I don't see a name brand on them anywhere.

Welcome to AD.
You seem to be headed in the right direction in determining the problems with your coaster. Here are a few guidelines.
1. Get a copy of Imgburn. You can burn the ISO image created by DVD Shrink with Imgburn, you can also set your burn speed with this prog. It is not recommended to burn at more than 4X.
2. Do not use paper labels.
3. Some good blank media would include Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Ritek and Sony, Maxell,and Fuji (made in Japan).
4. Don't compress your backup too much. Set your target size in DVD Shrink to 4300, this will keep you from burning too close to the edge of the disc. Remove all audio except for the AC3 5.1 and delete any/all subtitles you don't need.

Get rid of those no-name disc . Pay the little extra and buy better disc. Forget everything else.

I don't think Nero is your problem. Sounds like you may be burning too fast. Try burning at 4x and see if that helps. As stated above, ALWAYS use good media. Look here for good prices.

And I would suggest buying AnyDVD while you can get it at a discount. Worth every penny.

update your Nero 6.6.0.18 is the latest verison
use better media (Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim)
and burn at 4X max.

It's funny but with some of my backups I sometimes get the pixelation and freezes but when rewind a bit and start again it's gone. Play it again and no problem. My CHEAP Cyberhome DVD player doesn't seem to have a problem with anything I play as well as my Panasonic DVD player. My Panasonic DVD recorder doesn't like some of my backups and then is OK with others. I think I know the problem...........GREMLINS!
Seriously I've found that slowing the burn to no more than 4X can make the difference although have also burned at 8X and seen no diffence. Lots of opinions here about burn speed and how does or doesn't affect final product. It is important to use quality media and since I have access in US to TY on a regular basis and often for $38 to $46 (US) through online sources pretty much stick with them. Over 700 burns of all kinds of data, movies and pictures with about 10 coasters which I think was due to something other than disc most of the time.
To err is human, to really screw up.....use a computer.

if you are not sure how to set DVD Shrink to the target size of 4300 mb just open DVD Shrink,click on edit,then go to the preferences, click on the preference tab then go to the drop down menu button and set it to custom then enter 4300.From now on DVD Shrink will shrink movies down to 4300mb not close to the edge of the disk.

4300 is not an option on the dropdown, unless it will let me set it manually if "custom" is selected. Right now it is set to 4464.
