I read the huge FAQ list and it said DVD+R won't work in the PS2, but my PS2 will play a movie copied using a DVD+R disc.

Am I misunderstanding what is being said in the faq list?

outta personal experience, i wasted a lot of dvd+r disks on trying to play it on the PS2. once in a while it would work.. but for me DVD-R is way more reliable.

SO they could possibly work but not as reliable.

Since my PS2 would play a movie on a DVD+R is it still safe to assume I should move forward with modding?

ya it should be safe. but next time u buy DVDR disks just pick up the DVD-R's. for me, DVD+R cds would work only half the time. DVD-R cds almost all the time.

SO am I right in saying that my next step in modding my PS2 is to determine the version and get a mod chip?

Is there an inexpensive way to do it? Could I buy the parts to put together my own mod or do I need to buy something already made?

Is soddering in or plug in better?

Do I really need to mod chip, what about the boot disk route?

I want to make my PS2 do everything possible including playing roms.

i use magic swap v3.6 with the flip top. it was only like 38 dollars after s/h and i recived it in 3 days. i'd recomend magic swap because its so easy. it may take an extra 2 seconds to boot before u load ur game, but it works really well, and easy to set up.. i never used an actual mod chip before tho, but from what i hear it can be complicated if ur unsure in what your doing..

so i'd recommend magic swap to anyone.

Oh... and I am a bit confused by the model number stuff to determine my vs #.

My model number is SCPH-30001 R

does this mean mine is a vs4 or vs5?

I don't have a marked screw and it has the voltage warning on the bottom.

Are you able to play ROMS with the magic mod chip?

PS2 Slimline's can play DVD+R's fine,

DVD+R = More quality but a bit more expensiver than -R's

DVD-R = More Compatibility and cheaper

I would choose DVD+R considering my ps2 ccan play +R's most of the time

PS2 Slimline + Swap Magic + Fan
PS3 60gb Version 1.90
PSP 3.52 M33 EUR Black Version + Logitech Hard Case + Logitech 3 Sound Speakers + 2gb Sony Memory Stick
Nintendo Wii + 3 Wii&Nunchuck Controllers
NDS Original + M3 Simply + 1gb Kingston MicroSD
NDS Lite + M3 Simply + 2gb Sandisk MicroSD

Lol, Mod chips allow the ps2 to think the disc is a REAL COPY and boots it up, or you can use swap magic.
