Does picture quality vary across different media ids? For example, if i burned "Show A" on Yuden and "Show A" on MCC, would the picture look better on Yuden?

Is the only difference between blank DVD media the reliability of the burn?

There should be no difference in video quality between different good quality media's. However the quality will vary by the amount of compression and software used. Playback problems (freezing, pausing, tiling etc.) can result from useing inferior media, burning too fast, and over compression just to name a few.

Burning the exact same show on 2 different MID coded media:

Standalones can pick apart the quality differences between different kinds of media.A newer/cheapie player probably won't have no trouble with the low quality media.
The older-more wear and tear-stand alones will have a harder time playing the lower quality media.

Usually the crappy media has to be burned slower/at a reduced backup target/or both just to get a stand alone to play it.It may not even play them at all!

Another thing is crc errors. Let's say next year you want to copy one of those backups that was on poor quality media. The chances of too many crc errors are on that backup disc and you won't be able to re-rip it.Making copies later on will be more difficult.Don't put anything important on the discs with the lower quality manufacturers.

What you want to do if you have both high and poor quality media: Use a program to scan those backups for errors like-Nero speedtest/kprobe/plextool/or dvdinfopro. These programs will show you all those little errors.Too many errors or errors in the wrong spot, you will have trouble later on. Burn your media according to how those scan.
You'd be surprised at how some of these quality 16x writers have better scans at the faster 8x/12x burns than the same media burned at 2.4x and 4x.

No... both Yuden and MCC(Verbatim) are top notch media, so you should have the same quality picture. However, if you want to look deeper into the quality of the disc, then you can scan with Nero CD-DVD Speed, K-Probe, etc. and you'll find out which disc gives you a better quality score including PIE and PIF.

A good rule of thumb is to always keep your burning speed to 4X - 8X, but don't go beyond 8X though (I don't recommend going over 8X). Try to burn some at 4X, 8X, 12X and 16X and scans with the results and you'll know exactly what I mean. In addition, make sure your burner's firmware is always up-to-date and you should be square away. Now remember, DON'T use CMC MAG or other cheap/unknown media and you'll be a happy camper.

Happy burning!!
