This might belong in the CD backup, but it's for the HD.. soo.. anyhow. :)

I finally got my PS2 where I want it.. 200gig drive, all my games now moved over to it (no more need for SM3.3 yeah!), the appropriate loaders, etc etc.. working good. BUT now I want to put my original AR MAX onto the HD too for transfers from USB/MC/HDD, and especially saves.. moving them, packing, etc. I'm getting far too many and I want to try and elimiante as much farting around with MC's and discs as I can.. moving AR to the HD would allow me to then run it via HDLoader, and be able to move saves off MC to HD (I think) or at least MC to USB memory stick, which is good enough.

So how do I do it?

DVDDecrupter - It's a CD, so DVD Decrypter doesn't work.

HDL_Dump v0.8.1 via LordGaMi's GUI v2.1 (which ROCKS I might add) reports an error trying to read the disc.

ISOBuster also gets read errors.

Nero 6.6.0.0 is giving me read errors too... but it is forging ahead, we shall see if it makes it.

Anyone help me out? Once I ahve the ISO, I am going to push it via HDL_Dump...

Thanks!!!!

Nero no dice.. read errors forever and I finally got sick of waiting after an hour.

Some Preogress, but still not working:

WinISO ripped it down without errors as ASPI (but files seem to be missing???)
Opened it via ISOBuster 1.8
extracted it (had some weird errors about files in use?, just hit OK on all of them)
Exported LBA list (relative)
Rebuilt via CDGENPS2, which worked.

Now go to upload via HDL_Dump, and it says "ISO or CD/DVD is not a Playstation 2 CD-ROM/DVD-ROM"

Driving me nutso.. anyone??

Go a different route, any better way to manage save files bewteen MC and HD? Just use the file copying in LaunchELF?

You cannot run Ar Max off the hdd, so why put it on there in the first place?

Because I want to have the AR memory management functionality without having to screw around with swapping the disc in and out.. if it was an image then it's runable via the HDLoader on the HD.

I don't want th cheat code part of it, jsut the memory management part. If codes don't work, I won't care.

So, when you say it won't run, do you mean at all or the cheat part of it? If cheats, don't acare.. if at all, well, that's an issue.

If it won't run at all, what options do I ahve for save file management then?

UltraISO just crawls along.. after an hour it is at 0.41%... 509 hours remaining.. ACK.

There has to be a way to do this, folks. I just want to run AR Max's memory management off the HDD, that's it.. no cheats, no media player, just the memory management part.

I found I can do some save game copying/moving via LaunchELF (3.41p) but it does not support timestamping.. hmmm.. that's not good if I move my saves and that nukes them. So that's nice and all but not useful. BAH.

Also, copying the maxmem ELF off the CD didn't help either (hey, it was worth a try!)

Finally got WinISO to read a full iamge of AR MAX but once on the HDD (via HDL_Dump), it locks on loading.

I haven't tried to replace files, and ISO Buster still has a problem with that long named file. All files are readable though (via ISOBuster context menu test options), so not sure... I was going to try and replace the dummy files (4 of them) but I can't repack it.. I make a new image with WinISO and HDL_Dump rejects it as not a legit PS game.

I'm closer and yet.. not any closer.

Anyone???

I did downlaod any torrent I could find in the hopes that something there worked, no dice either.. that was just testing via loading onto the hdd via HDLD.

Daniel, help me out here.. what's the basis of that? You try it? You read it somewhere?

The reason I ask is that I have seen someone (here I believe) say that they HAVE done it with a torrent DL of AR MAX (evo perhaps?)... so there is a conflict there since they say yes, you say no.

Just trying to understand, not call you a lair or anything.. if there truly *is* a version that works on the hdd, I need that one (and I've started scouring the torrent world for it, and since I do own a legitimate pressed copy I don't feel that would be copyright infringement since it would be my "backup" of my true original I do actually own). I found a couple, neither worked for me.. stuill digging and honestly I ahven't een opened those ISOs to see waht is in them.

I've read it can be done, it was a guy looking that had a PAL version and wanted an NTSC or vice versa...

Thoughts?

Im speaking from personal experience, i've tried a lot of different approaches, it just never works. I'm not gonna go into a lengthy story of all the things i tried on both my ps2's, it just won't work.
Another thing, if you just want to move game saves to and from your hdd, i'm sure there are more (and simpler) ways to do that, just do a search on google or the forums, i'm pretty sure it has been covered before (can't give example's though, i'm one of those guys that just uses a big stack of 3rd party memory cards, so i don't ned to store that kinda stuff on my hdd's)

I'm about to give up and jsut buy a 64 meg MAX memory card.. more $$$ spent, though.. the HD is perfect for this!

The problem with any other HD copy process I see is I risk the timestamp loss.. which may render saves useless.. which defeats the point of saves. :)

Someone need to fix the timestamping in LaunchELF 341 so it will just do it without potential loss of saves, then BANG problem solved.... no need for AR at ALL, direct MC to HDD (no need to hop to USB viua AR first), etc...

I own 3 different AR versions, including the evo, and i never got any of them to work ... what i did notice is this guy claims he made a virtual cd drive on his hdd... If you can find out how he did that, you should be able to copy the process... i'm stumped as to how he managed to do that though, i don't know of any ps2 related virtual drives software...

Hmmm.. Daemon Tools perhaps?

So he ripped to HD, then faked it as a disc... I tried faking the ISO via Daemon and no dice... hmmmm

I did get the EVO (torrent) to partially boot but it locks when the "loading user settings" pops on screen. I tried a couple of compatibility modes, and either 2 or 3 on would get a partial boot then lock. There is user settings on the MC, though.

It's very weird the image can't be rebuilt, that long file craps out ISOBuster. Intentional perhaps?

It's odd you say PS2 specific software, but the discs all read on a PC.. you can browse them, etc... I tried burning the EVO and my MAX back to CD but the media I have can't be read so I need to either burn it to a knoiwn readable DVD (not sure how to convert CD to DVD) or buy some media I know will read (and I don't know what will read...so... not much possible there).

The more I travel down this road, the more I wonder why I am. ;) Even if I DO get AR on the HD, I STILL need a USB stick.. which I need to buy. I'm about to abandont his and just buy a 64meg MC for $35 and give up on AR.. I hate to let a piece of technology kick me in the crotchs tho! ;)

About the virtual drive...

HDLoader does it all. When you select a game to play, HDLoader makes a virtual drive out of the .iso. And he said he downloaded it it too. I was able to download 2 or 3 different AR MAX versions from BT to test it out, but I don't have my PS2 back yet lol. I remember when I was trying to configure an FTP, I had to burn this image then install it on HDLoader, but I always got a black screen when I selected it. I think I used CDmage to fix all of the errors the image had, so maybe CDmage might work.

CDMage, eh? New one on me.. have to find it and try it.. I get lockups when it tries to load user settings, that is as far as I get.

I've got 3 versions now.. a 80ish meg EVO, my ISO of AR MAX (not EVO) and some other 27 meg image too... maybe a forth as well, need to look. My image is the only one that gives me anything at all.

I'll find CDMage and give that a shot. Thanks!
