Jep. I would defenetly go with Kazaalite.
Not only is it the same excelent program as Kazaa, it´s a stand against Sharman netw. extreme marketing policy, which might actually put the users in danger. OK, a bit drastic of a view, but still.
All the other "clones" include spyware, and if they don´t, Sharman will probably bann them :-)

The performance of the pear to pear changes frequently, but now IMHO, Edonky is the best choice.
1. Edonkey:
Pros:
a. It forces everyone to share out. It forces your download speed can only be four times as your upload speed. Everyone who wants more downloads, upload more please. This implies that download files from it is very easy, since many people will upload. I have downloaded many DVD rips in the recent two months (I have used it for not a very long time) Every night I can downloaded Gs files. However, my connection (max) is only 185k. With this slow connection speed, I can download at about 50-110k, constantly .
b. You may say some guys will remove the complete files. However, one of the major advantage of this software is that it allow / force owners of an uncomplete file share out the already completed parts. Of course, this is backed with sth like "hash" and "checksum" technology.
c. Link. There are some famous website like "www.sharereactor.com", who provides a lot of links. Click the links in IE and it will automatically be added into edonkey. The links include some codes of the files, that will garantee you will download the file you want, not sth with same names and sizes.
d. support multi-sources download at the same time. (similar to other p2p)
cons:
a. easy to download, but the kinds of files is relativily less than winmx.
addvice:
a. good for download large files, eg dvd rips and large software, or even tv episodes.
2. Winmx
pros
a. can find rare files.
b. many different files.
cons
a. not support multi-sources download at the same time. but can resume from other sources.
b. speed is relativily slow.
advice
a. if you use it, dont forget to use napmx
b. good for searching mp3. can download big files, but IMHO, relativily difficult to complete the files.
c. In my own experience, there are more Japanese on winmx. So if you want to dl some rare Japanese anime song(which I download most), try it.
3. Kazza
pro:
a. faster than winmx (just my own experience)
b. good for download big files. but usually I use edonkey to do this job.
c. good for download mp3, speed should be faster than winmx

I never got never got edonkey or winMX to connect. Otherwise eDonkey seems promising. If you got a 50-100 kbps d-speed with only a 185 kbps connection, I envy you.
If I´m lucky I can get a transfer-speed of over 100 kbps with Kazaa (has happened twice. And I have a broadband connection (should be about 1 mbps >).
Kazaa enables downloading from several different people if the file is widely available. Then again if only one person has the file it might not download at all.
And yes, I should learn how to use DC, I´m just experiencing some lack of time.

hi Ghostdog ^^
actually both edonkey and win mx are much more time consuming .... than kazza, since they need you to find and test good servers for fast download. Especially for edonkey, it is very sensitive to "server" and isp -- some isp cannot connect to some servers, or the connection vary a lot (srange....?)
A good information forum is important to it, and I suggest www.sharereactor.com , which should be the largest, and people there are very nice too. ^^

Sharereactor seemed like a great idea alltogether. Didn´t use it much when the donkey didn´t want to connect that often.

at first its kinda hard to use..but..they have EVERYTHING..and the other thing i dont like is most of the hubs have a minimum gb requirement.
some of them are bigger than my hd..lol..i use winmx for now..i used to use i mesh but it seems like no one uses it anymore.

That´s why I was glad to find Kazaa Lite. A pretty strong statement against "really evil spyware".

i agree w/ liteorb, hop you are talking out of your ass. the clean versions of both grokster & kazaa only remove the dodgy adware crap. no hacker access stuff is evident. scaremongering is neither funny nor necessary.
p2p's - ease of access the fasttrack clients
amount of stuff available winmx, even without the nap servers i can find more rare mp3s there than anywhere else (now that audiogalaxy's dead anyway).

Has anyone noticed that you can turn CapsLock OFF?
AVI with it´s different codecs is taking over. For compatibility the author should use MPEG, but often a certain format provides better quality/size-ratio.
If someone knows of a "universal codec library"-site (or something like that) I would be grateful. I hate it when I download a movie and it doesn´t play on WMP 6.4

As much as some of our users tend to love "universal codec packs", namely Nimo codec pack, I don't recommend those for specific reasons. First of all, uninstalling them cleanly is almost impossible. Secondly, there is only a very, very limited number of codecs you actually need in real life -- most notably, downloading FFDShow (can be found from our site) provides playback for all MPEG-4 -based codecs, including DivX and XviD -- without installing any overhead in terms of useless encoding capable codecs. And its faster too.

So FFDShow can decode MPEG-4 files (and do it faster), but it can´t encode them?
What if I have the both DivX 4.12 and FFDShow installed? Which one will be used for decoding the movies?

Yes, FFDShow wont encode files, it is not a codec, but a DirectShow Filter instead (which doesn't say a jack to most of the users, but let's call it "playback onlu codec" then :-).
From FFDShow's settings, you can select what types it should decode, including DivX3, DivX4, DivX5 and so on.
