V400 USB Connect

My V400 is very tempermental. One minute it's connected fine with phone tools then after i click on multimedia it disconnects. The computer seems to detect it just fine after i installed the P2k drivers, but Phone tools will not recognize it 90% of the time. It is not possible to transfer files what so ever. Does anyone have any suggestions?
