i am a newb and i recently decided to start using taiyo yudens as they seem to be the preffered discs by the members of this forum. but i could only get the 8X speed discs. but it seems that most people at this forum claim that the slower the burning speed, the better. so i was wondering whether can i still burn at 4X speed with these discs? will it affect the burning quality at all?

The 8x speed is the Maximum you can burn however you can burn at ANY speed up to 8x, you are correct, try to burn at a low speed. Good choice of media.

you can burn up to 8x, even 6x but you will find 95% of the members here burn at 4x or less..

@ doc.... i too from time to time, burn faster, depends on the movie, who its for, or what im doing at that time.
i have done my verbs at 8x with perfect results, but now i got me a batch of ritek G05 printables, i did by accident an 8x burn, was like opps, but i scanned it, scored a 95 on it..

even i do 8x on my LG 4163B half of the time (i was doing 8x for quite a few of my Verb TY discs then it went splat on one of the burns, so i went back to 4x for a while). my 4167B will only do 4x though.
I am still advising posters to do 4x for example, but the onus as ever is on them to think about going higher as and when they get burning consistently.
