I just received my flip top case with swapmagic from revolution-sales. I'm at the stage where I have to remove the 4 tiny little screws on the dvd tray. The problem is that they won't come off. They're so little, and if i exert a little pressure it feels like the ps2 would break in half :(

Any ideas on how to overcome this dilemma? I'm using the philips #1 screwdriver of course, and I don't know if it gets any smaller than that. It seems like those 4 little buggers don't want to come out..

They usually are pretty tight when you try to remove them for the first time. You just need to use something like an eyeglass screwdriver and you'll get them out. Sometimes you hear a little noise (kind of like cracking), but that is ok. It just happens because it is the first time removing it.

Managed to do it at last. Installation was a pain (couldn't put one screw back). After everything's done, this is what it looks like. Is it fine?

Is the cable to the right supposed to be like that? At this point I'm a little confused. Should I insert the swapmagic dvd before turning it on? I tried once, but all it said was there was no disk. I tried an original ps2 dvd and it said the same thing, so I'm a little confused. There's also a slight high pitched sound when it accesses the dvd. Is that normal?

Personally, I don't have a flip top, but I can tell you this much. That ribbon to the right (Eject/Reset) should not be hanging out there like that.

That might be the reason that it won't load. Now, when you say "there was no disc", do you mean that you got the Disc Read Error or the Please insert a PS or PS2 disc? Or is it something else?

[Edit] You could also try removing the screws from the top and then try to boot a game.

I took it apart and adjusted the cable so it doesn't show up anymore. The eject switch works fine now, and I tried my original PS2 DVD and it works.

The problem at this time is this big sound when it's reading. The sound is like all of my pc fans on at full speed. Is it ok? Is it an effect of having a flip-top?

When I inserted my Swapmagic DVD it said "disc read error". I'll try cleaing the DVD and inserting it again.

It's more open to dust (actually.. it's much easier to clean now..!) and so I think you should use some Isopropile alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) on the laser to totally clean it.

Phew, got it all working at last. Strangely enough, it resets itself every now and then, and it seems to have gone away when I put something heavy on the ps2.

The only remaining trouble is, how to use the memory card with swap magic? My memory card requires a CD to boot from to work. So do I boot with Swapmagic, then put the memory card CD, then the game?
