Here are some of the problems that I have been having. Have a NEC-3500AG dual layer burner. Been burning single layers disks fine for quite some time. Finally ordered some dual layer disks (ridata dvd+r dl). Maybe that was a mistake.

Anyway, without knowing any better, I used dvd-shrink (no compression). It ripped the data and nero 6 kicked in and burned a dvd. Played the dvd back and everything seemed great. The only issue was that, at the layer break, my sony dvd player skipped about 5 minutes. So, I asked around on these forums. The response that I got was to do everything with dvd decrtyper.

So, I've tried with dvd-decrypter (rip and write with dvd decrypter). Burn appears to go fine. However, now all I get is a disk error with these burns.

Any thoughts? At first I thought that my dvd player just didn't play the dvd+r dl's. But, that can't be the case because they worked previously (just with the annoying skip).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dave Walker

What burn engine did you use when you used DVD Shrink and it only skipped? Nero/dvd decrypter/or CopyToDVD?

Nero6 does have trouble with the layer break. DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read and write is a very good program. I have found a few stand alones that won't play the burns of DVD Decrypter, where as the Nero burns play flawless.

I had a sony dvp ns-325 and it had a hard time with my dl media-mainly at the layer break.A new cheapie player took care of that.Dl backups seems a little trickier on stand alones than the single layer backups.

Another program to try is IMGBurn. It was created by LightningUK,same creator of DVD Decrypter. It's only a burn engine, and looks nearly identical to DVD Decrypter. It's also free and you can get it here:

http://www.imgburn.com/

Rip with DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO
Open up imgburn and locate the mds file and burn like you would do with DVD Decrypter. I haven't tried that program, but will on my next DL backup. It's said to be a better burn engine for DL backups.

Watch one of those dl backups on your pc using the 3500AG drive.Carefully watch that area that gives issues with an older DL backup and see if it will recognize the DVD Decrypter DL backup.
