I started backing up my DVD collection a couple months ago using Memorex and Sony DVD-R, and DVD Shrink + DVD Decrypter. Everything seemed to be okay, the movies played fine after the burn. Now a couple months later I'm starting to watch the discs a second time and they are garbage. Most of the movies play about 45 minutes or so in and then start skipping so bad its unwatchable. So my question is which brand of disc has the longest life? A lot of these movies are for my kids and they get played constantly. I notice Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim gets a lot of play on these boards. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of these brands? I guess I should have done more research on the discs before I started. At least I wont have to buy any coasters for the next 10 years. Thank you in advance to anyone with advice.

Verb and TY are the way to go. They are consistently high quality (except for the Verbs labelled "Pearl White"). I can't think of any disadvantages besides that it is easier to find Taiyo Yuden online than in stores. A lot of people will suggest to look at Fuji and Sony +R made in Japan on the packaging in stores for genuine TY media, but I can't find anything besides made in Taiwan locally... You can find Verbs in just about any brick and mortar shop, and it's okay that they are made in Taiwan.

I suggest rima.com or supermediastore.com for TY and newegg.com Verb.

Hi there,

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/273627

After reading on MAM-A 4.7GB 4x Gold Archive DVD, I would vote for these :)

But have not found a review on them, I guess those are pretty new and VERY expensive !
