I just purchased an ilo DVD recorder R05. I have two different kinds of DVD+R's.....maxell and philips. When inserting the blank into the recorder the machine says "the dvd is not reconized or is blank, would you like to erase the disc to prepare for recording"....if I choose yes, it goes up to 99% of formating and stays there forever. This is driving me nuts! Is it a bad unit, bad media choice or something I should change in the settings??

I called customer service, they said those two brands of media were not recommended and I just went out and picked up one they did recommend. Still freezes up at 99% when "preparing" a BLANK disc for recording. They emailed me 2 software updates, but now I have issues on what way to burn them using my adaptec direct CD burner. I just burned one on the option of "creating a CD for distribution among different types of computers" and putting that CD into the ilo results in -0- files on disc. Im really getting upset to have spent the money on a product that doesnt work. I shouldnt have to download anything.

I took the thing back. I went to Target to see what they had, and I noticed a unit by "Trutech" that is obviously made by ilo. I bought it and it turns out to be the MU1 model and is burning fine right now.

Equipment is not made by ilo

ilo is a WalMart Brand

The ilo 04 series is made by LiteOn. The 05 series by Cyberhome.

If the Truttech is a MU1, than it was made by Cyberhome. regardless of any vender it was purchased from.

The Cyberhome 1600,and 1200 are the same unit as a ilo 05 MU or MU1.
The exception is the 1200 does not have a DV input. The DVD drive, Chip-set and connections ars the same they lust left the DV input out on the 1200.

If this unit is purchased,it wouldnt make any difference where purchased.

WalMart would be my choice The return privilge is far surperior.

PS I have a ilo RHD04, ilo 05 MU1 and the Cyberhome 1200. I have used the disks you mention. I mostly use Maxell and Verbatim +RW. I do not have any proplem with any. If I transfer [Rarely]to a PC I also do not have any problems And I use Cheetah as a Burner

Thanks for the info. I think I just bought a bad one at wal-mart. Do you have macro protection turned off on your MU1?

On any of the 05 model or any of the clones, it is not possible to defeat Macrovision or any copy protection. [To My Knowledge]
I believe you can set them to Region free but I have no need and do not remember the prciedure.
