hello there. i have been considering getting a ps2 and modding it. although having read many formus i am confused of the things i should do. i am planning on buying a new ps2 slim and putting a mod chip in, unfortunatly, my friend who already has a modded slim tried to play some of my burned games, and said they do not work.
i need to know whether i should infact get a ps2 slim, or get an original and get that one modded instead
(btw, i used nero burner 6.0 to copy the dvd roms of the following: Dbz budokai 3, and tenkaichi, killzone, soul calibur 3, and devil may cry 3 - my friend with the orginal ps2 tested out the dbz's and said they worked, the one with the slim tested out killzone [which worked] and soul calibur 3 and devil may cry three which didnt.) i would like to know what should i do in the form of buying original or slim ps2, and how to go about modding it and backing up games (dvd) (i am not interested in getting swap magic- and was wondering if mod chip is the way around it)
Thanks in advance

Slimline PS2's read alot of DVD-R and +R brands, but sometimes bad quality media doesnt work, and sometimes the burner you use has a effect on the quality of the disk.
For example:
When i use the DVD-/+RW burner in my Desktop PC, half my backup never read in my PS2, but when i use the DVD-/+RW burner in my Sony Laptop, i never have a bad disk, its quite amazing how these small things have such a effect.

@waleedwc: Just curious, but have you tried updating the firmware on your desktop's burner to see if that helps?

Yes i have updated the firmware on my desktop PC, it has a cheap burner in it though, i guess that is the problem, its a partbuilt PC, the burns read fine on the PC, but half of them never get to the PS2 readin stage, but with my laptop, all my backups so far have been succesful

I purchased a pre-modded slimeline ps2. I really like it but I dont like the fact there's no hard drive support. If I had anouther chance, I'd probally by one the more recent full sized ps2's and mod it.

For the modchip, no questions, the DMS4 Pro. It boots everything and has a 2 megabyte flash ram. There's a really great program called Toxic OS that only works with the DMS4 Pro. They are on version 0.3 which can boot your games and run games from the hard drive (even a non-sony one)

Version 0.4 will allow you to run homebrew programs right from the chip as well as make more games play from HDD.

You can connect a hard drive to the USB port, but you have to have the hard drive out in a seperate case which makes the slimline useless, its meant to be saving you space, but a extra case takes up more space, but if thats not the issue, like me space isnt the issue, i dont mind having a external hard drive.
