I don't understand it. My new portable player will read all recorded DVD+R I've recorded on the standalone, but if I burn them (same types of discs) on the PC and try to play them my portable won't read them. Is there a certain setting I need to change when burning them on the PC to get my portable to read them? Maybe region setting or PAL/NTSC setting? Help!

Some Stand alone player are picky about the media type that you use. Look in the manual and see it's preferred media. Newer stand alones will most likely play everything, but older ones may only like DVD-R's.

To overcome this you should consider booktyping DVD+R's to DVD-ROM which will play in virtually all stand alones as that is the format of commercial DVD's.

See this thread for information about booktyping:

Well, I'm using the same media and it'll read it recorded one way but won't read them if they are burned on the PC. If I record a DVD+R on my stand alone DVD Recorder the portable will read them. However if I burn it on the PC it won't. I don't understand that. Thank you for you help though. I'll check into the booktyping you mention.

I was just reading your suggested page. I'm using Maxell (Ritek), I did however burn at 8X so I'll slow it down to 4X and see if that works. I also have it set to not burn to the edge. Thanks.

Cougar,

It worked! I slowed it down to 4X, but I also found a little setting in DVDShrink that said something about compatibility and I unticked the little box. Not sure which one of those made it work, but wanted to thank you for your help. I'm very pleased now!
