i just recently picked up this app called divxtodvd followed all the rules and finally burned a couple of avis of an anime,8 to be exact ( all of them were about 175 megs)
they were all converted then burnt to dvd
i used fullscreen apsect ntsc
when i play them on my regular 4:3 tv it doesnt show all of the picture. the top, bottom, right and left sides are chopped. when i open the vob files to check on the pc it shows up regular.why is this? is there anyway to fix this? sorry for the noob question, plus im noob to all of this converting junk
this is extremely annoying considering i love this fantastic app
i want to be able to watch the dvd as if i was watching it on my pc. the quality downgrade i dont mind but i want the whole picture so that the subtitles that come with the avi file will be completely readable.
Please note I'm guessing, since I never saw your TV.
You must know that it is normal, that a TV screen 'chops off' a little part of the movie. For instance, a 480x480/576 SVCD movie is 'chopped' about 32 pixels, so if you resize it to:
448x480/576
+ expand screen to 480x480/576 using e.g. back border
the 16 pixels East and West of the screen aren't seen and the movie is completley seen, in the TV screen.
Since 720/480 = 1.5 we can suppose that 1.5*16=24 pixels east and west remain 'hidden'.
Therefore: open your AVI with VirtualDub.
Make filters___Add___resize
We suppose you have a 640x360 AVI movie (16:9 times 40). The same applies for any 16:9 AVI.
You do, in the resize filter:
Frame Width = 672 (720-48)
Frame Height = 480/576
Filter mode = Lanczos3 (the best one).
Expand frame and litterbox image:
Frame Width = 720
Frame Height = 480/576
and click OK.
Then do File___Stert Frameserver and call it movie.vdr (you must have the necessary DLL installed. If you don't have, double click on auxsetup.exe, which is in VirtualDub's directory, and click on 'Install Handler').
Do File___Stert Frameserver, call it 'movie.vdr', then put VirtualDub in the Taskbar.
If you folllow http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm , in http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd_page_4.cfm you load movie.vdr with your encoder (any encoder is fine. Maybe you'll just have to write the .vdr extension explicitely), instead of movie.avi.
Otherwise you can use any encoder. Just load movie.vdr. This way, you 'created' a movie pratically idenntical to the input movie, but with 24 'border' on the two sides, which should remain hidden by you TV screen.
