This is probably something that has been covered in the past, so please forgive me. Am I correct in assuming that a DVD recorded in the UK (PAL) will play on a US TV with no problems. The DVD would be from a Panasonic EM20. Thanx

No.... it can't be played on US DVD machines.

It CAN be played in computers.

Some DVD players (in particular the units which ship as multi-region) have a PAL<->NTSC converter built-in, but many don't. So it would be safer to assume that it won't play in the US.

they don't really call it "pal" or "ntsc" with DVDs; they're regions.

North America uses Region 1 and Europe uses Region 2.
i think there's a total of 7 regions.
you have to have a DVD that is specifically "multi-region", and even most DVD-ROMs are not multi-region.
however, for DVD-ROMs there is sometimes a firmware update, or software that can get around this, but use at your own discretion.

What do you mean?

Yes, region coding and the video encoding (ntsc/pal) are separate things but both affect the playback of DVDs depending on your player capability.
