If you have a backup on your reliable DVD media and it plays in (example) your 30001 v1 PS2, should it play in another version?

I have a 30001 and it's not playing in my 70001. I have two PS2's in two locations. If I want them both to play the same back ups, should I consider a used or refurbished model that is the same as my 30001?
