When trying to use DVD shrink to open a file image,(from DVD decrypter) I run out of Memory. It does not do it when just shrinking straight from disk or even a normal decrypted file, but when I have trouble with one I use the read mode on decrypter. What can I do, I have already added more RAM, but it still runs it to 3MB left and shrink shuts down...

Are you multi-tasking? Turn off spyware, internet, anti-virus, popup blockers, and anything else that you can while doing the burn process.

If the computer is getting hot and the system shuts down, put a fan in front of it to assist with heat removal. I do all mine that way.

Turn off anti-Virus programs, screensavers, and anything unecessary that may be running in the background. Turn off Decryptor before opening shrink. Then let shrink "find the file" already ripped by decryptor. If you use decryptor to burn, it will be called up automatically by Shrink.
How much RAM have you got?

I have shut down everything else, have nothing running but system essentials. Is there another program that shrinks the DVD's so they fit on 4.7 disk? I had only 1 512, but added another today, and it is still running it down to nothing... I have tried everything.. It is the brothers grimm movie so dvd shrink wont do it without decrypter, and if I dont use the read mode, dvd shrink stills gives me the same error from the decrypted files, but it doesnt in the read mode.. It just eats up my ram

512mb should be enough. Something else going on. Would do virus scan, spyware scan. HD defrag. Check every process running (ctrl-alt-del) to make sure there is no rouge program running.

You can also run DVD Shrink in low-priority mode.

Definately defrag the HD. I do this weekly. Shrink is incredibly CPU intensive and will command 90 to 95% of a systems resources.

Some interesting info:

Windows itself will use up to 128mb of RAM to run the OS.
The DVD burner can take up to 512mb of Ram, like my 6143B does, but normal is 128 to 256. You can see that a chunk of ram can be used up before you ever start shrink.

That why I have 2gb in my system.

I have tried everything you suggested, defrag, virus, and spyware, and shut down all systems i dont need. I am still running out of memory, i have tried designating part of my hard drive for virtual memory and it will not accept the changes i am putting in, could this be one of my problems??

Is this happening with every dvd use shrink on? Every time I tried to backup Brothers Grimm with Shrink I would get an "Out of Memory" message. Decrypter wouldn't run at all. It's some kind of copy protection. A friend tried Brothers Grimm on his Computer and Shrink gave him the "out of Memory" error also. I tried it with Clone DVD and had no problem. Try another dvd first.

Attn: newbies and or those may concern,

For any new release dvds, if you're having an error failed, "out of memeory" when using DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2, then it has Macrovision's RipGuard protection. For those that "have not" had any lucks or any successful backup trying to backup "The Brothers Grimm", try the following method and you'll be a happy campler in less than an hour. Try this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/273544 and follow the mini guide wisely and you'll be fine.

Good luck and have fun burning!!!

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

im having the same problem with some other disks as well. i installed AnyDVD since DVD Shrink could not do it by it self and watching the buffer as it is ripping now, it got up to 750mb before the computer kicked the program in memory down to 50mb. In other words, it does not appear to be writing to the hard drive.

Brothers Grimm used a lot of processor and memory when I burned it with any DVD and Clone to the dl.

I think if you follow alkohol's guide you will have no problems and will be fine just by using VOB blanker as an added process. This is what DD forum says about that specific error code in shrink:
Quote:
Errorcode - Out of memory/Not enough storage is available to process this command

Errorcode ver 3.2:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Out of memory
Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Errorcode ver 3.0b5:

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Programming error - impossibel program state occured
The reason is unknown

Problems:

The problem can be due to known "Problematic movies" such as Resident Evil: Apocalypse region 2,4,5. For more information and a list of those movies and a working solution - look at this FAQ page.

You have converted an AVI movie file using CyberLinkPowerDirector into the necessary DVD files. You are now trying to reduce the size of those files.

You have joined some VOBs together, using VOBEdit, into one (or more) "big VOBs".

You are trying to backup an ordinary DVD (perhaps with Multi-Angle).

Possible Solutions:

Do a mock strip using IFOEdit. Credit: wingerz

Perhaps the message it must the fact of that it was testing yesterday and today some codecs of video (3ivx and Xvid) with VirtualDub MPEG-2 1.5.10. The codecs XviD, particularity, seem not to like my machine configuration. Credit:

DVD Shrink does use however a lot of memory. It depends on the DVD, but I have seen up to 200MB. With 256MB to play with, you may be cutting it fine... Credit: dvdshrink

Try to use another device for reading the disc. Credit: ruffnut

I suddenly started getting on error message when using shrink - either 'out of memory' or 'insufficient resourses to complete task'. Was the computer set up for hibernation, and if so DISABLE IT. I went into start - control panel - power options, and sure enough, last week when I set the computer up to automatically turn off after 3 hours, it had enabled hibernation as well. This apparently ties up a large chunk of your memory. I disabled this, and now everything is working perfectly again. Credit: jems

Try to use IFOEdit. Credit: Vegas

I used DVD-lab to create the vobs from a single 5 Gb VOB. Then I got the error. I redid the VOB files with Sonic Fusion (1,073,709,056 bytes per vob) and everything worked. Using DVD-Lab (1,000,038,400 bytes per vob) the memory allocation just keeps rising until Shrink reports out of memory
error. Credit: mudry

I was having problems with a multi-angle DVD. With DVD Shrink in full-disk mode and in the beginning of a video sequence with multi-angle option, it was had a considerable increment in the use of the buffer. The problem was resolved with virtual memory abilited. The file swap consumed approximately 380 MB in the portions with multi-angle where the transcodification was very slow. The final result was excellent (in comparison, for example, with ver 2.3 that it does not have problems with my amount of memory). Credit: fsdantas

If you need to use a page file, then you'll get better performance if the page file and the DVD Shrink output folder are on separate hard disks, preferably on separate IDE channels. If you don't have a second hard disk, it'll be cheaper to purchase more memory. Credit: dvdshrink

When you get virtual memory warning, it is more likely that your harddrive doesnot have enough space. When encoding it will takes 1.5 x 9.0GB (duala layers)/4.5GB(single layer) original DVD of your HD (where you store the outout file).
-You should clean up your output files to free up space on your HD, and/or
-Use same output file folder (overwrite the old out put file) and/or
-Go to "System Property" -> "Performance Options" to increase the virtual memory capacity to the maximum available. Credit: vitieubao0223

What is the ideal amount of RAM with DVD Shrink?

Some DVDs with multi-angle features, long chapters or high bitrates will require more memory than 256 MB.

Memory is cheap these days. Get another 256 MB!

(or increase your swap file size, but expect a severe performance penalty if DVD Shrink starts using swap file).

384 MB (256+128) should be enough, DVD Shrink would probably never require swap file.

512 MB is a nice round number.

If you run three instances of DVD Shrink simultaneously with Photoshop and a C compiler open in the background, then go for 1 GB
So it sounds like it is a ripguard thing going on and VOB Blanker will handle that no problems whatsoever...
