Hi,
I have a sony handycam that writes directly to dvdrw and I want to to edit it.... so I copied the files (using software from sony because you can't read it with a dvd drive) and it's in mpg (dvd format) and then I import it to adobe premiere. Premiere says that some files are corrupted, unsupported, etc. But even when it can be imported, there is no sound....(no sound IN adobe premiere, I sort of understand this because it's in dvd format or something??) So, I used mainconcept mpeg encoder to re-encode mpg (dvd) to mpeg2 format so that there is sound (IN adobe premiere, and it does) but still some files can be imported and some files can't. OR sometimes adobe crashes... why is this?
So, I got tired of trying this n that.... now I just wanted to convert the files into avi (which I usually use when I edit in premiere, using dv capture with a mini-dv camcorder) how do I do this?
I should just have stick to mini-dv hey?.... this dvd camcorder is wasting my time!! :P

no sound issue: if you open the file with VirtualDubMod and do Stream___Stream List , what does it appear?
Abous the capturing, I don't know. Probably you should lear better how to record the files, because 'not supported' is a bad answer...
can't you read something, in its instrucion manual?

Hi there bro_chimp.
Although I never did cam conversion nor mpeg to AVI, I would first check if you have proper codecs installed on your pc. See if you can render your files in progs like GSpot. Next step would be using would be using a different converter like WinAVI Video Converter. I read arounf here in the forums that Adobe is not the best program for such tasks. Just my 2c.
