I recently bought a 50 pack of Great Quality 8x DVD'S from fry's electronics (it's supposed to be their brand) well anyway I used DVD Identifier and to my surprise here what it said they were (Manufacturer = Sony)
(Manufacturer Id = Sony08d1)

I also bought a 25 pack of Verbatims 16X from offic max
(Manufacturer = Mitsubishi)
(Manufacturer Id = MCC-03RG20)
I didn't notice on either of them where they were made,my question is are these good quality dvd's? my dvd player in the living room is an apex and it plays +R,-R,RW,VCD,MP3's and some of the backups I've made play fine on here while others will start to lock up after about 20 or 30 min.Yet I can take them and play them flawlessly on my xbox or ps2 without a single skip or lockup,I can even use memorex dvd's on my ps2 or xbox no problems, but I won't ever by memorex anymore after reading the threads here.I would also like to know if putting the sticky labels on dvd's has any effects on their playback ? I haven't used any yet but am considering it. Also it seems that the orignal dvd's you buy from the store or that you rent, they seem to be thinner than the blank ones,is there any reason for this? and also would a thinner DVD keep the DVD from heating up as much as the thicker ones? just a thought:) any info would be greatly appreciated ,oh by the way I use nero 7 ultra to recode and so far the quality of the picture has been awesome.

Thanks Creaky for that link,it had a lot of good info.I didn't even know they could fake a DVD,I guess you can tell I'm fairly new,I'm glad those GQ's only cost 10 bucks.lol looks Like I'll be looking for some of those Sony +R 8X spindles made in japan or the fujis made in japan, from what I've read it looks like they may be hard to find though. also I bought hose verbaims I mentioned,I've used 2 of them and one played perfectly while the other locked up halfway through the movie, had to finish watching the movie on my xbox,I hope when I get those sony +R's 8X that they work out better for me,I'm going to try and bookmarkit as a DVD ROM I hear that makes it more compatable with DVD players,I haven't tried using +R media bacuase my old DVD player wouldn't read it,but that player is trash now anyway and my new one plays everything.I'll post back after I get home from the store.

no worries; what i would recommend is visiting the DVDR Media forum very often (i check every thread in here every day), there's a few threads each day and it pays to keep on top of the threads as this is one of the better forums around here, plenty of very useful info

Got my Sony +R 8X made in japan :), just burnt a movie as DVD Rom using Nero ultra on the sony DVD +R and Booktype as DVD Rom,played it on 2 apex players and a cyberhome player and it had a hard time loading on all players and then it froze on all players also,it plays perfectly on my xbox and pc don't know what's going on here, thought burning as DVD ROM was supposed to make them more compatible.so far no luck, by the way the sony +R made in japan are the

actually, according to your dvd identifier log...you DID NOT booktype them to dvd-rom~ :)

it's STILL DVD+R, assuming that is a scan of the disc you JUST burned... :)

you need to double check your booktyping program, whichever one you use to accomplish it on your particular burner...cuz the proof is in the pudding...it has NOT been changed to dvd-rom according to your log...

the last [DVD+R] SHOULD be [DVD-ROM]...it is obviously NOT at this point...
