I have a BenQ 1621 16X dual layer burner and phoned the support line of BenQ and they recommended Sony R+ DL media to do a long backup.
I have used all of their recommended media for regular backups and my firmware is up to date and I have had great success.
I have primarily been using Clone DVD2 or 1 Click DVD Copy along with Any DVD.
I also have Nero 6 on my computer.

I am now wondering if any of these proggys are good burning DL's and which one is better?
Or do I have to look to installing another program?
I am new to all of this, I have used DVD Shrink and now want to look at the using of DL's.
A friend in computer wholesaling gave me several of the Sonys to try and so I decided to post here and look forward to experienced comments.
My backup is about 3 hrs long. I am simply interested in trying this out and intend to use the Book Management exe. that BenQ sent me so that I can burn in DVD Rom which I have been doing and have had great success in being able to view my backups on 4 standalone dvd players that various members of our family have and all are of different quality and vintages.
BenQ advised me to continue with the Book Management process with the DL's and I should have no issues.
Now I simply want to know what would be the best proggy to use to start such projects.
I don't want to go the DVD Shrink route, I want to try out these DL's.
Regards.

The only program I have used for burning DL discs, is DVD Decrypter. They say you can do it with Shrink too, but I haven't tried that yet. The only place I've seen lately, that still has Decrypter as a download, is Doom9.com. Go to: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm and scroll down. It's in the Descrambling / Ripping tools area...............
If you d/l it, make sure, once you install it, that you uncheck the box for "Check for Updates".
Good luck!

use your Nero 6 for data backup, and DVD Decrypter or its bastard nephew ImgBurn to bund DL disc for DVD videos

use verbatim DL for backup, sony's arent my favorites
unless u have a huge tv, use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for easy backup, no need to pay, plus, you can barely tell the difference

on a side note, use DL for DVDs that are tv show seasons or a music video dvd, such as Led Zeplin dvd;s

these music ones (with video) usually have big audio streams that you will want to keep

dont pay to backup, its a waste

also, benq support isnt the best place for info on bakcing up dvds : )

DVD Shrink

Go to Edit -> Preferences

You'll see option to change DVD size, "Target DVD Size". DVD-9 is the one you want. It is simple and works great! I have Nero 6.6.
