Ive tried almost everything to try and get good quality mpg's from dv avi encoding [tmpgenc], but cant. could someone please help me out on how to get the BEST quality mpeg1 files encoding dv, please. i really dont mind about how big the bitrate might be, i just want the best quality. and btw the avi taking from virtual dub is in dvd quality.

Why are you useing Mpeg-1?? You Know that Mpeg-1 is not a Good Format for High resolution Files and since you say you Don"t Care how much bitrate is used then you can"t be Makeing VCD"s which is the Only reason that I can think of as to why someone would want to use Mpeg-1...

If you used the mpeg-2 format with an Average bitrate of about 6000kbs then You should have a Mpeg-2 file with about the same quality as the Source DV File.....

Tmpgenc is Probably the Best Mpeg-1 encoder arround and if you used a High enough bitrate for the resolution you are encodeing to then the Quality should be as Good as it could possibly get while useing the Mpeg-1 format.....

What is your Purpose for useing Mpeg-1??

Cheers

Well Set the Format to Mpeg-2 and set the Average Bitrate to about 6000kbs and the "Video resolution" to "720x480" (For NTSC) and set the "Field Order" to "Bottom Field First" and the "Frame Rate" to "29.976fps" (For NTSC) and the "DC Component Precition" to "10 Bits" and the "Motion Search Precition" to "High Quality(Slow)" and the "Encode Mode" to "Interlace" and then you should get Pretty Good results Or at least pretty close to the Original DV File....

Cheers
