I have a similar question. I installed the slimline ps2 fliptop cover but I am iffy as in whether I ghetto rigged it or not.

Look at this guide. When you unscrew the two small screws, they are attached to these two flimsy metal things. You can see it in the picture where he circled the screws. One of them fell out and I decided to pull the other one out too. However, when I put my fliptop thing on and screwed it in with the metal thing, only one would go in so I just left the other screw without the metal thing.

I am not sure if it is suppose to do this but right now when I put a cd/dvd in, it only starts spinning when I leave the fliptop up. It stops spinning immediately when I put it back down. Is this normal or did I screw something up?

Edit: I have another problem. I've screwed in both metal things. The problem is right when I insert the swap magic disc, it starts spinning on its own. Then, when I am on the load program page and try to swap a disc, the lens will sense me putting a disc onto the drive and start spinning and moving around. Why is it out to begin with? I'm totally lost. Other wierd things are if I move the lid back all the way, the led pops out. If I put it half open, it goes back in. Sometimes it starts spinning when its half open. What did I screw up in my fliiptop installation?

PS: there's also a black spring/coil thing that fell out when I pulled out the original cd lid. Is that vital to anything? I have no idea where it goes to.

I have the same problem. In my case I am able to get the disk to spin by applying some pressure to the fliptop cover while starting up the PS2 unit. Another user on this forum appears to have some weight placed on the PS2 unit for the duration of the gaming session.

My guess is that fliptop cover is not screwed on tightly enough...
