Hey everyone. I am very new to ps2 modding. I have spent many hours reading countless threads on this forum. Everyone here appears very friendly and extremely knowledgable. Also, I tried to find anything that could assist my problem before I posted and with no success, I decided to post this.

So with the introductions out of the way, onto the problems at hand! :D

I own a PsTwo (slimline) I think it's version 12, however im not exactly sure. The reason being is that the Serial number is SCPH-70011, but it came in a white box.

And I am under the impression that all v12 come in a yellow box.

Both pictures are from www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm (Im not sure if that is classified as advertising, but im putting it here to see if its a credible web site, which is cause for concern as to the version of my pstwo.)

The reason that I am even concerned of my pstwo's version is that I'm worried about it's laser. I've heard that the v12 laser is terrible and burns out really easily. Also, that there are many laser protection items available.

However, it seems that only people using an actual mod-chip are concerned with laser problems.
- I'm using Swap Magic v3.6 and Magic Tools (the no-solder mod).
- The type of media I am using is Verbatim DVD-R, MCC ink.
- I'm Burning with Dvd-Decrypter @ 4xspeed.

I've backed up 3 games so far, Area-51, Dbz Tenkaichi and Shadow the Hedgehog, all work perfect, with no coasters.

Nero CD/DVD Speed gave me this after scanning my back-up of Tenkaichi

So I was wondering if I need to concern myself with laser problems, and my laser dying? Or can I continue to play/back-up my games without worry.

Hey, thanks for your input.

I probably would get a hd, but unfortunately I have no idea how to hook up a hd to the slim, because the one sony put out is not compatible :(

Merry Christmas!!!

You would have to get a hd that connects through your USB port and then a program called USB Extreme.

This link contains compatible hd's: http://www.hdadvance.com/index.htm (just click on the compatibility under USBExtreme)
