Oh yea if anyone's ever installed a DMS4 Lite in a v7, can you send me a pic of the installed chip? There's installation instruction from the DMS4 website but there's no picture that say where they actually put the chip on a v7. Thanks again

use the 30g on all but the power and gnd, just as you've read so many times I'm sure. the larger wire causes extra capacitance in the circuit and you do not want this in the logic of the chip, but the power and gnd require the larger wire to prevent power loss to the chip.
you can see installed pics at http://teammodders.com/install_pics.php

thanks KC36330 that was really helpful. But you know how the the tutorial on the DMS4 forums said to tape the modchip itself so it doesn't short out on any metal accidentally? Do i have to do that? the chips in the pictures don't have electrical tape over them or anything.

i secure the bottom side of the chips to the motherboard but i do not cover the tops. the motherboard cover is metallic and if you do a poor installation job thats all bunched up you may want to take precautions against shorts, but I'd suggest putting the tape on the metal cover rather then the chip. you want as heat free a chip as possible.

Ok, I just brough all my supplies last nite from radioshack. Well I guess I should tell everyone out there that if you're just going to mod a ps2 go with the E.Z.I as the it would be cheapest and easiest. My DMS4 Lite was $42 but supplies (soldering iron, desolder, solder, 20gauge and 30gauge wires)were $35 so it's costing me $77 to mod mine while the DMS4 lite E.Z.I could be found for $70.
Ok thanks for the help again KC36330. Should I use tape or a glue gun to secure the chip to the motherboard? Also you know how their wires were nice and clean, should I use tape or a glue gun to hold those in place too?

most of us already had the required 'supplies' to mod to start with so we didn't incur that cost like you did. I've got about 16 one pound rolls of 0.032 solder and the iron i use is a $400 one so we wont include those in cost.
I've never had luck getting the single wires 'glued' down as the pics on team modders, what has worked best if your trying to get that look is the use of PC IDE ribbon cables. one of the avionics shops i used to work in had 1000' rolls of it from 5-200 wire count and i picked up some of the left overs from cable builds, it works great.
to stick the chips down, some have a self stick back those that do not i use super-glue gel, hot glue may work thought.

Whoa $400 soldering iron guess ur a pro and you use that for something else besides modding ps2's. You never had luck glueing the wires down but have u tried and does it ruin the ps2 if the glue is on the motherboard? maybe I could use ide cables but I don't know what gauge they are so I'll just use the 20gauge and 30gauge I got. Oh yea those 30gauge wires are kinda hard to strip since they're so thin.
My last modchip was a usb key sbox for v1-5 ps2 and there was only a single wire to solder, then later I got swap magic and a fliptop so I know how to take the ps2 apart (probably the easiset part in soldering) The DMS4 lite should arrive in a week (man what a rippoff I paid for 3-5 days shipping but Christmas delays it) so, so far I've practice soldering on an old ati rage videocard an kinda getting the hang of soldering. Is the rosin core really gonna make u have birth defects if u breath it in? It has a warning that according to california it cause cancer, should i wear a mask and have eye protection?

according to the State of California, anything under the sun, and to include the sun, causes birth defects and cancer, that and all the just plain weirdo's is why i left there and came back to Sweet Home Alabama. but you should use eye protection and don't just sit there and sniff the fumes (some kids in Cali like to do this)just use a little common scenes, your not going to be melting enough of the solder to even constitute opening a window but to easy your mind, you can. solder is a mix of tin and lead, lead will kill ya in high enough concentrations.........that being said, I've used my lips to hold solder when working in tight spots that required both hands to hold the components and the iron, and with 16 yrs of doing that, and a few of those years i was doing that in California, i have on adverse effects from doing so.
also with Christmas falling on Sunday, and New Years on Sunday, 99.9% of all delivery systems have minimal delay other then the pure volume of packages. I've had several global express from France that were delivered in the 3 day time as promised, you should be getting yours as well.

Just did a mod chip a couple of weeks ago, the first time using a soldering iron and the machine works well still. #1 rule - take your time!
Make sure your iron has a very fine tip, file it if neccesary. As with any project, the preperation makes all the difference. Check the net for soldering tips and lots of info on the chip install and take your time to do it right the first time.
Good luck!
Sucks about the cost for all the equipment though. I got my chip from Mod-chips.com and they supply solder, laser fix chips, both guage wire, de-solder wick... with almost all chips at no additional cost. Each chip takes so little material, it's a shame to have to buy full rolls of each.

PS2 v14 SCPH-75001 SlimKit & SwapMagic 3.6 (soon)

I've got to be honest here, anyone complaining about the cost of supplies required to do a mod really shouldn't be modding at all then. you get $50 games for the cost of your time backing them up and 30 cent each for the media, your first backup paid for any supply costs. stop complaining and be thankful you got out so cheap.

Yea mods are really cheap insurance to ur games. Like the Swap Magic disk I had is probably the most valuble disk i own because it lets me play backup games on any ps2 system and even online too. I just decided to get a DMS4 now because I hate having to swap and sometimes it doesn't load so i have to keep doing it. The worst modchip i think are the neo series. I brought the Neokey/sbox thinking i could play all games but it could only play ps1 and ps2 cd games with the purchase of a gameshark and i still have to swap.
I just hope once I put the DMS4 in I'd never have to patch or rebuild any games again righte?

well for dual layer I just save it to hdloader since dual layers are still around $2.50 even if u buy a 50 pack maybe I'll get it once it drops to $1 per disc like the Sony single layer disc I'm using.

I have 2 SBOXs but I messed up during soldering... if it doesn't interfere with anything, I'm just gonna stick in the SBOX just for looks.
